Rifle Scopes Viper pst

I'd like your opinions on the Vortex Viper PST for use on a 300 Win Mag , will it hold up to the recoil ? , I'm shooting 210 grain Bergers at 2900 fps !
Should I hold out for the HD Gen II , I know they are apples and oranges , It's just I only want to make one purchase and be done with it ! , I will be hunting with either one and shooting long range for fun , not competition .
Regardless of price I'd like opinions of people that have used the PST in a similar application .

I fired a pst off of a 308 yesterday and I thought it was bullshit how people were dissing this scope. I don't know how it would hold up to the 300, but the glass clarity was great.

I've had a 6-24x50 FFP PST on my .308 for a year and a half now and it's always tracked great and done all I've asked of it. Two things I don't like about it is the eyebox can be unforgiving and out at 800+yards things look a little hazy, but for the price I can't complain too much. I am saving up for a Gen II Razor or a Stiener for those reasons.

The Gen II's are going to excellent I'm sure, but for a hunting rig you might be packing very far, keep in mind they are some of the heaviest scopes currently on the market.

I have only really heard of a few people having trouble with PSTs on braked magnums. Vortex may have addressed that, not sure.

My experience with my Viper PST mimicks Struggles'. Overall the scope has been durable and reliable. There are people using PSTs on magnum caliber guns without problems. I use mine on a 5.56 SPR that gets thrown around a bit. I am overall satisfied with the scope, but I bought it before some of the competition came out with comparable models that I wound up liking more. While I don't dislike my PST, I do know for certain that I won't be buying another one. The eyebox is very tight and unforgiving, resolution wanes at top magnification, and while the glass is very good for that category, there have been several scopes with better glass released within that same category. For $899-$949, you can step into the HD scope category for not a whole lot more.
I have gotten behind the Razor HD 5-20x50, and it is most certainly a far superior scope in every way. I have not looked through the Gen-II line, but the glass is supposed to be even better. If you have the means to get a Razor HD or Razor HD GenII scope, get it.

Thanks USACS , I'll be waiting for the Gen II unless I can get a very good deal on a Razer HD , I'm also waiting on the reviews of the new Burris XTR II .

It's tough to beat the PST line for the money. It should hold up but if doesn't you're covered. If your worried, a few more bucks will get you into Razor territory or the SWFA SS HD 5-20x50mm.

Yes it will hold up. However only you can justify if the gen 2 is worth the extra 1000 or so bucks it is gonna cost you. I have a pst on my 7mm rem. mag. It has held up well for over 6 years. I also have a NF NXS and a NF atacr. Are they better than the pst, absolutely. Are they 1500 better? Only time will tell.

Yes you are right to hold out for the RAZOR 5X20. I have both the RAZOR and the PST. The PST works great out to 1000 yards but I shoot my 300 WM out to 1200 to 1400 all the time so I got the RAZOR. I use my PST on my SIG 716 and have no complaints, I see it I hit it.. I did get to play with the new gen II 4.5X27 at the shot show and I will get one later this summer. The only draw back is the $ 2599 price tag for the new Gen II.

Check out Camera Land. They've got some really great deals on Gen I Razors. I love mine. Also RangerWalker has some really great deals on Razors. I had the PST on my .308 and it was fine but for the money the Razor is where it's at.

I would echo these observations. My experience with my PST on one of my precision rifles has been entirely favorable and difficult to beat for the price.
