So this post is somewhat of a continuation of a previous post entitled "Vortex customer service" linked here http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2501689 For those of you who don't want to read the thread i basically got a Viper model 6.5-20x50 scope and it would not hold a zero and questioned about the Vortex "Lifetime Warranty" and their customer service. Let me say that their customer service is A++. I was informed that the scope had a weak inner erector tube spring so a brand new scope was sent out the next business day after they received my original one. Excellent.

I received the replacement and went out yesterday to try it out. After some zeroing shots i went for the box test. The scope didn't hold a zero but even more off on this scope was the tracking. Myself and a friend both tried a box test and the scope was unable to hold a zero for either of us or track. Attached is a pic of the target. The upper right target's shots are quite a bit off of each other. I may blame that on myself or my friend miscounting the adjustments. The uncircled shots were my set and the circled shots were his. It was about 85 degrees with head winds between 7-13 mph, target at 100 yards.

What are the chances of me getting two bad scopes? I sent Vortex an email earlier and explained the situation and also attached the pic. They won't get it til Monday when they open back up. I'm expecting to send the second scope back to have it fixed or replaced. I have heard nothing but great reviews about the Vortex scopes but mainly the higher end PST and Razor models. Has anyone done a box test with the standard model Vortex Viper. What were the results and do you have pics?

Also for those of you thinking of getting this scope, you do not need a base with any additional MOA. I have the 20 MOA base and when zeroed at 100 yds i only have about 17 MOA up but 36 MOA down roughly from what i remember.

Re: Vortex Viper quality in question...

stmcelroy, my rifle is an SPS Varmint 308 in a B&C A2 stock. EGW base and XTR rings. kind of a beginner set up. there is a pic in the link of the original post.

mscott, no i didn't have another scope available to put on my rifle and test. my friend that was there had his 5R with a Leupold Mark 4. i was thinking even if the wind were to move it around notice how close my friend and my strings of shots were to each other, other than the top right which i mentioned. what are the odds right.

InfiniteGrim, please do a box test and post pics. that would be greatly appreciated.

i really want to like this scope and use on my rig. everything else about the scope i like. i just want it to perform as i expected. i don't think i'm asking too much even if it isnt a high or higher end scope. any thoughts...

Re: Vortex Viper quality in question...

It does not sound like you are asking too much at all. Vortex says their scopes are guaranteed forever against anything. I would think that means tracking. From what I hear they might even send you one of their better scopes to keep from having to keep sending you the standard Vipers.

Re: Vortex Viper quality in question...

i'm not trying to come up on a better scope for free. when i did send in the first one i asked about paying for an upgrade thinking the PST model was the one to have. they told me the wait on one would be a long time. like i said if the scope held zero and tracked great it would definitely be 5 stars to me. i love the glass. i like the turrets. don't mind the mil to moa adjustments.

i hear all these great reviews on this model and the praise is much like mine but no ever includes the results of a box test or similar. can someone please share one honestly? thanks.
