I am looking to upgrade my scope. Is the Vortex Viper 6-24 mil/mil FFP is it as good as some shooters claiming?I was looking really hard at used Leupolds. But if this scope is good quality it has the features that most shooters are looking for.Does it track properly and good clear glass?

Re: VORTEX ?

Yes yes and yes. I love mine

Re: VORTEX ?

I was looking at that and the new Weaver Tactical 3-15x50.

I think for the money the Weaver is a better buy. there is a review floating around here that compares the 2.

but then again, one has 24x magnification, and the other doesn't...

Re: VORTEX ?

If the 6-24 PST proves to be reliable, it is going to be really hard to upstage. This is an outstanding scope, not just for the money.

I have a Razor 5-20 and the only category in which the 6-24 PST trails the Razor is mechanical design in terms of long-term robustness. The Razor is truly a beast, but it costs double too.

Get in line or get something not as good.

You know there's a 4-16x50 PST too right?

Dont forget the reticle also lags slightly, the EBR-2 and 2B are hard to beat.

Ah, yes... I would like to have a .04 mil EBR2 in my 6-24 PST. Thanks, Jon

Re: VORTEX ?

Oh, forgot travel, too. Internal elevation on the PST is a little weak at 19+ total mils. I have 28 mils up on a 40 moa rail with my Razor. I'll probably be doing a bit more holding over with the reticle with the PST.

One of the reasons I am considering putting the Razor on a AR-50 as opposed to the PST.....

You know there's a 4-16x50 PST too right? </div></div>

No ffp and some say glass isn't as good

Really?
In the review they compared a FFP 4-16 to the Weaver FFP 3-15 and the FFP 6-24.

OP, there is also a 4-20 FFP Weaver available, and a Bushnell 6-24 FFP.

To be fair the review had the Vortex 4-16x50 SFP not the FFP.
I have the FFP 4-16 and I'm happy as can be with it. Now if they offered it with the 2B reticle I'd be all over that in a heart beat.

I'm pretty sure it was SFP man. not FFP...

and it's a 100 dollar diff for what is compared to as the better scope.

I wonder if the glass will have the same qualities? </div></div>

man that's a price diff. 720 for Weaver FFP vs 850 for PST. not to mention there is a month wait for the PST where you can have the Weaver FFP today

you can get the non illum/EMDR for even less! making it like 200 bucks cheaper than a PST!

Re: VORTEX ?

The elevation adjustment is plenty for 308 and the likes, but when you start talking magnums that will reach to a mile and beyond its just not sufficient unless you get a 50moa rail and zero at 600 or something. A 338LM requires roughly 19mils at 1760, so you need to be completely bottomed out to get there with the 6-24...whereas the Razor I am 5 mils from bottom and still have 30 mils up!
