Part of the units leading the fighting is not satisfied that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is run by incompetent old men. thus they expressed their disagreement with such a provision. and it seems that they were heard. because the decision has been made not to hold anyone accountable. Only Putin personally could make such a decision. And he, as a reasonable person, made a choice. The Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff will leave their posts.
They attacked SF? Could have been. I was thinking they attacked Marines in Syria and were 100% wiped out in short order. I recall Putin saying he knew nothing about it. If these are the same mercs then they are no threat to anyone but themselves.

I assume that episode is part of why WG recognized that the Russian generals are out of touch and clueless to the modern battlefield, read the list of (disclosed) assets we hit them with, WG were fish in a barrel when US air support showed up and I’ll bet money the Marine arty det didn’t pass up on the opportunity to throw everything they could at the ground formation.

Sounds like for only a few days work they got a huge pay off to reinvest into a future effort. Russia caved hard because they can barely fight the Ukraine plebs let alone a second front / coup thing.
Wagner guy wanted to fight the deep state as well as the giant failure that is Russian leadership. This hasn't changed and the ceasefire is more akin to the German non aggression pact of WW2 than anything.
Russia again is buying time and it sounds like Wagner didn't get all of the support it was promised via back channel (surprised there!).
From a Wagner standpoint, all they need to do now is to 'not lose' while the war continues to destabilize Russia and weaken its military.

This mimics my thoughts on this situation. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Could be something, might be nothing.
I’m not so sure that Putin wouldn’t have used the Chechens against Wagner while leaving most of the Russian army to deal with Ukraine. I saw a small article stating that as a possibility. That would have been a mess for sure. But don’t think for a moment thst this wasn’t used to remove the Wagner leader from any Russian political aspirations of dethroning Putin while also keeping the Wagner forces in the fight.
