    Going down is easy too if you have a parachute. I thought this was pretty hair-raising too.

    This would be pretty scary too, but I don't see it anywhereon the same level, just because you are strapped in alot of the time and have a safety net of sorts.

    I looked up the salary for the guys that climb the 200' to 500' towers. I was not impressed.

    I've flown airplanes fir years but I'm scared to death of heights...don't know why but it's true. Just watching the video made my stomach turn. No damn way. Serious nuts on those guys. Someone has to do it but it ain't me.

    I worked about six months on power towers for the Pennsylvania RR when I was 19.

    I quit the night they made us climb in a hurricane and my partner got killed with 66KV by an incorrectly thrown Transmission Line switch in NYC Penn Station's Power Room 15 miles away.

    They had wanted to send me up to take his place. Those people thought train schedules were more important than employees' lives. I disagreed.

    The next day I had passed the tests and was hired by IBM.

    I just about vapor locked watching that video. Like Baddeerhunter above, I don't know if you could pay me enough to do that. That would be a LOT of old-brain, primal fear to muscle through. I'd rather be in a box full of tarantulas....and I friggin hate spiders!

    LOL! I used to do that! Was a tower monkey for 4years. The pay sucks, and we were always on the road. It's really not that bad once you get used to it. The two scariest moments I had was at 455 ft relamping the top of guy tower, the lamp was almost 3 feet tall and the highest point on the tower.... so that means I was tied off...... below me, and I forgot to mention it was on an 8 inch diameter "monopole" that ran the top 25 feet.
    The second, I was working a 250 self supporter, we finished the job late one night I was the last one on, so I derigged the winch and had to carry 120lbs of gear and tackle down. I slipped a few times and collapsed when I got to the bottom. That was a reckless call from my crew leader who got fired over the ordeal.
    But let me tell you, the sights are amazing up there!!! I quit cuz I missed out on a lot and cuz the fear of heights set in after that one.

    4000 volts, not even close. Try 230kV to 500 kV. We have a member here on the hide who gets paid well to do this shit. I've watched him and a few others "BOND" on and let me just say, F*** that $hit! As for the climbers arch look reach pull baby!

    Been there and done it! Installed some instrumentation at the 1,600' level of the WRAL tower south of Raleigh. It's kinda a rush working above the clouds fastened only by a rope and D-ring.

    They don't pay those guys a whole lot either. And you only make a mistake ONCE.
