The 90s were pretty good, but not a fine ole piece like the 80s. The 70s were pretty good too.
shit changed in 90, i called it the beverly hills 90210 syndrome...
after i came back from overseas after being gone for almost 3 years, things were diff. and it
had a lot to do w what was on the tube.

born in 88 the 90's was a good part of my childhood and I would agree, I miss those days like crazy. hell I miss being a Kid. my papa was alive then too so life was perfect..

50's economic slow down 48-52 (post ww2 stuff)

some new technology, TV, cars, became more affordable
GI bills gave everybody a standard of living which might not be affordable before
relative safety when you kept your eyes open/ unlocked house doors
gangs used bats and chains not rifles and pistols (there are always bad people but a kid street fight in 10th grade was punches and kicks not pistols and knives)
60's
begining was like the late 50's
duck and cover practice was the most dangerous part of the day
american dollar was strong
travel and overseas good were "cheap"
US was still looked up to because of our action in WW2
late 60's...enough said

oil crisis
rise of terrorism
economy is a disaster
post vietnam american self-hatred
poor economy creates cheaply made goods (everything made in the 70's was made like shit)
Pong/home video games came out
police departments "on the take" across most major cities
early 80's
thank god for Reagan
suburbia started coming back to life $ wise
inner cities were a disaster
rise of AIDS..no more unprotected sex with out the possibility of getting more than the clap
Late 80's kind of like the 50's for a new generation
early 90's
economy drops after cold war
gangster rap/anti authority becomes mainstream
a lot of "big brother" looking at you
world is a "safe place" although Harlem and Watts are not to be driven through, but it stayed there
drugs making their was out form population centers into "regular" peoples hands

more money = happier country
helicopter moms start showing up
technology hasnt gotten its stride yet
PC culture started to gain a foothold
might be biased but i think the 85-95 decade was most likely the "best" time to grow up
USA is safe from war in general (everyone knew USSR and USA arent throwing nukes at each other)
technology is cheap and had by all
economy was doing well, most households could pay their bills (causing less stress on the family)
Just Say No was starting to work
No PC, LGBT in the mainstream public eye (not saying its bad or not..just not being stuffed down your throat)
last period in the USA that a car mechanic was able to feed his family

Pretty hard to beat the '70's and early '80s in Rural New England. A lot sucked in the country and the world in retrospect... but for a farm kid in a country town in Northern New England, it was about as perfect a time to grow up as there was anywhere!
The '90's for me were a whirlwind of high-tech. Must have been interesting for a kid.... the biggest thing(s) that happened to use technologically were... a color TV (I remember the Dukes of Hazzard first season in Black and White), the Sony Walkman (I did not get one.) And Ghetto Blasters (I did get one.)
Other than that it was dirtbikes, rifles and hunting all the time, horse farm chores, playing with cars (now valuable muscle cars, back them $100 cars that we could fix up and swap motors in)... riding bicycle 10 miles to friends housees (and hoping I could get a ride back). Catching frogs in local ponds. Fishing. Playing army or cowboys and Indians. Swimming holes that were 'real' swimming holes... and ponds. Sledding and skiing (we got free passes from school). Picking up bottles and cans to turn them in to buy RC Cola and Pretzel Sticks. Picking up stray golf balls in the woods around the local course and selling them back to golfers. And parents expecting us to be GONE after breakfast... not hanging out in the house. And at 15, you got a farm drivers license if you had a farm (we did). Which meant chores like getting feed weekly. And going to a job when not doing farm chores. And otherwise being useful.

The music I grew up listening to. WNEW FM played it all and I would sit next to a table radio listen to The night Bird (Allison Steele), Roscoe, et al play what was considered at that time underground music. When you went to a concert it was about the music and not all the theatrics. Saw the Allman Brothers right around the time Live at the Fillmore was recorded and Duane was still alive. Also the Band, Marshall Tucker, Led Zeppelin, New Riders, Flying Burrito Brothers, Byrds etc. Saw the Dead over twenty times between 1972 and 1975. Have all that music loaded on my iPhone and great for road trips. "Who Do You Love" by QSMS is frequently played.
The early 70's pretty much sucked with the end of the Viet Nam war and the energy crisis but made up for it later in the decade. 80's brought the big hair bands and they pretty much sucked and if wasn't for Springsteen it would have been a total bust.
Country music died when it became Pop just like today. Merle, Johnny , Willie and Waylon and the music coming out of Austin was the only country music worth listening to.

SNL in the 70's was still very green. SNL started to come into form in the late 80's. The 90's SNL had a long list of greats. Ill post it.
