The for profit prison system creates a "dog in the fight" over whether or not pot should be legalized. I look at pot laws from the perspective of a tax payer.
There are only so many tax dollars to harvest from taxpayers, and for city, county, and state agencies to spread around. Law enforcement has to find, arrest, arrest, prosecute, release on bail or monitor pending jury decision, and finally incarcerate if anyone is found guilty, supervise on parole of probation...that all costs lots of money.
I would much rather law enforcement use those tax dollars to deal with burglars, robbers, identity thieves, sex offenders, and people who commit crimes of violence rather than spending those precious resources on pot smokers. Tax dollars are a precious resource and they need to be spent conservatively.
I don't use any form of marijuana or it's products, nor do I recommend it's use. However, I think adults should be as free to choose to use pot as they are to use alcohol, tobacco, caffiene, energy drinks, vape, or seek prescriptions for other drugs from a doctor. I resent what I feel is a waste of my tax dollars when those dollars are spent chasing pot smokers.
There are plenty of people who present a far greater threat to the safety of the community than someone who just sits at home and wants to smoke pot and watch television.
