I just picked up a used Weatherby Mark XXII that is like new. Original owner is the dad of a family friend. He was selling off some of his gun collection and this gun caught my eye. It has a matching Weatherby Mark II 22 scope on it. Gun is Japanese made and is clip fed. Was looking to get some member input on this gun from those who own or have shot this gun. accuracy reliability value ect

Thanks

I have a Italian mfg Mark XXII and I assume that is what you have. Mine is very accurate, and has a very cool trigger group. I think they were one of the best autoloaders of their time (earily 60's). They are very nice for sure.

I'm certainly not an expert, but these were made in both Japan and Italy. I'm not sure which are most sought after, but they show up on gunbroker so you can do some research. I have the tube feed Japanese variant, which seems to be the least common (most are clip fed), and it is in perfect shape as well. They're beautiful little guns, enjoy it.

for just a little more incentive, if the rifle caught your eye and is at the "right price"...buy it and enjoy it.

i don't know anything about it personally, but the below is telling me it's a sweethart of a rifle, with the bolt action version made to with an anschutz action!!!!

looks as if the XXII was once a semi, then in 1989 the model became a bolt:

aparantly, a very pricey rifle:

it would help if you told us if it was the semi or bolt, but either way it appears to be a beautiful piece.

Re: Weatherby Mark II 22

You've got a winner. As mentioned earlier these were first made in Italy, by Beretta if I remember correctly, and then in Japan. I've had one for over 40yrs. and it is about a 1" gun at fifty yards with crap ammunition. The trigger has quite a bit of creep but the creep is smooth. Reliability has never been an issue.

If yout friends father did not show you, disassembly is a bit different. Remove the pin at the rear of the receiver and then pull the barrel/receiver group forward about one-half inch. To remove the bolt pull the operating stub out of the bolt and the bolt will fall free from the receiver.

As with all things rimfire, got to RimfireCentral.com. These guys know their stuff. The value of these is now in the +/- $500. range and the correct scope will add value.

You have a very well finished, adult scaled, .22. Mine has given me tens of thousands of rounds of enjoyment. Do not lose the magazine. They are difficult to find and quite expensive.

Enjoy.

My grandfather had one of these. It was a sweet shooting little rifle. The ability to select from semi-auto to single shot was pretty cool.
