Hi all,
I'm interested in a good precision rifle in .300 Win Mag. I wanted a Sako TRG-42, but it looks like they aren't importing them in .300 WM anymore, unfortunately. I don't really want to spend more than $3000 on the rifle, but I was wondering what people thought - experience with the TRR? Opinions on that vs. a R 700P with an AICS 1.5 stock? Or can you name a better rifle that is in this price range, that has a good tactical stock with adjustable cheek plate and butt stock?

Thanks in advance.

You'll find your options for Weatherby rifles are very, very limited overall.

You will find a much, much better support for Remington actions.

Have you been behind said rifles to see which stocks fit you? Its hard to order them in the dark and be sure its going to be the best stock for you.

Personally, I'd pick up a 700P in and get behind several stocks until you find one that you like and order it.

One question, is this your first precision rifle? If so, .300 Win isn't the best choice.

I had a Savage rifle before in .223. Why would .300 WM be a bad choice?

I'm looking for something that could at least theoretically get out to 1000 meters, but will likely be more often used at shorter distances.

No complaints about inherent limitations of the Remington 700P? Any suggested alternative to an AICS? With the AICS you can just drop in the barrel/action right? (since it is already bedded)

You can get out to 1000yds with other cartridges and less recoil. I shoot my 308 out to 1000yds no problem. You dont need a Magnum caliber to shoot 1000yds unless you plan on taking game.

What are you plan on shooting, targets? If targets is all you are shooting I would go with a 6.5mm cartridge (260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor ect). They have great ballistics and a lot less recoil.

I would pick up a Savage and build off of it, before I would go with a Weatherby. You will end up spending more building off of one then what you would on a Custom build.

You could go with GA Precision and get a Base Custom for that price.

Go with GA Precision Base Custom in 300 WinMag $2900. GA is a sponsor here on the hide and have a big following.

If you wanted the Sako why not go for a Tikka in a W3 chassis. It will have al the ergonomics of the Sako with a buttersmooth action and excellent accuracy as standard.
