West Texas Ordnance

Clayton Smith at WTO is absolutely one of the good ones. He is an awesome shooter as well as being an awesome gunsmith. Even more important, he is an honest person of utmost integrity.
The thing that I like most about our discussion is that I could tell he was being very honest and up front of what he personally would do with what I told him I was planning on doing, very understanding and patient.

You guys are really making me excited to have him build this for me!!
Thank you

You won’t go wrong with WTO, Clayton and Rubio both are super great guys and will answer any questions you have.

Beautiful guns there bud!!

I’m going to do their switch lug on mine with a bighorn origin with a krg bravo.

I have two rifles at WTO right now getting switch lugs put on and two barrels for each. One of them is a rifle that Clayton originally put together for me with a big horn tl2 action and now I’m adding switchlug, the other action is a brand new. The previous work WTO has done for me has been outstanding with no complaints. Just for reference the rifles I have or am having built are “PRS” type rifles that I do use for competition and for fun/hunting, they are half MOA rifles.

Both Jonathan and Clayton are great to work with and very patient. I’m sure Clayton gets tired of me calling and asking questions but he never shows it and is always honest and up front.

Awesome company and great customer service, Clayton has helped me more then once;)

And to kick it off they build hammers
Shot my 7SAW in its first match today. Thing hammers in more way than one. The energy on target is insane. And it flat out shoots tiny groups.

Helps when you have a stellar guy doing your reloads hahaha

What load sre you using? Im heading down this road.

I’m not even in the US and Clayton’s customer service is awesome. Got a 7mmSAW reamer and set of dies to me through JGS Precision and Redding. Ended up building 3 builds with the reamer. Clayton always took the time to answer my questions and was particularly helpful with load development and me getting the freebore changed (I have the short reamer).

I have only ever had Clayton build me rifles in the past and I see no reason to look for a new smith. Switch lug is great and I am looking to get into his new Caprock action soon...... So please go buy my 6.5 CM/308 Switch Lug Rifle so I can get the next one built!

The Caprock is designed for maximum rigidity with today’s larger optics. It features integral Picatinny style scope bases with 20 MOA forward cant machined into the forward and rear bridge, for rock solid scope mounting using a variety of rings. The center section is cut out over the ejection port, to allow easy loading from the top and unhindered case ejection. It is available in left or right hand configuration, and can be had in either stainless steel or titanium body(Caprock-TI).

PRICE: $1350 stainless, add $450 for Titanium Body. Add $200 for Caprock .338 action for Norma/Lapua/Rigby cartrides

I'd also like to add to this thread that Clayton is very active in PRS. Both sponsoring and competing. He placed 4th in the Reveille Peak Ranch Open this last weekend using his 7mm SAW. He said he was shooting Sierra 160 TMK bullets at 2,820 if I recall correctly. He was the only one in the competition to shoot a perfect score on the unsupported standing, kneeling, prone stage.

In a game where everyone is shooting a mouse fart cartridge it is refreshing seeing a shooter compete so well with a 7mm cartridge that would be quite capable of also taking elk sized game at long distance.

I'm wondering if Lone Peak is making that for them. Looks exactly like their actions.

I'm a little late to this post but I finally got to shoot my rifle today!
FN PBR receiver, Bart Marksmen 26" fluted left twist , gain twist 1n9 to 1n8.25 twist with Claytons muzzle brake, BEST bead blasting job I've ever seen anywhere!!!
McMillan A3G stock bottom metal/floor plate modified by WTO for SAW II chamber 3+"s coal possible feeds flawlessly!
I did a Satterlee load development test with Berger 175 Elites and three powders.
H4350 @45.6/45.8/46.0 netted me a 6 fps spread @2700 fps/2697fps/2709fps , not sure if this is the low node or not and will go higher depending on what the case and bolt lift/ primers tell me!
I started too low with RL16 and never found a high node but the low yielded [email protected], [email protected]& [email protected]
I plan on re-shooting this to gain more data!
StaBall 6.5 will have to be done over as the low node was 45.7g@2640 fps, 45.9g@2640 fps and jumped to 2686 fps @46.1g
the next four rounds went as follows, 46.3/2697 fps,46.5/2711 fps, 46.7/2716 fps, and last load 46.9/2724 fps
All these rounds exhibited no heavy bolt lift and only minor primer flattening.
For the time being this is only a hunting rifle , until I can find a chassis system that will allow ARC magazines and works with a M-70/FNH receiver, HELP!!!
I will post future results when possible!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Oh hell I forgot to update my own thread......sooo I got my barreled action from WTO about 3 weeks ago and got her together that night I got it!!!!

Bighorn Origin action fitted with WTO switch lug, 6.5PRC chambered 26” Krieger 4 groove LT Palma, timney Calvin elite 2 stage, vortex PMR rings, Athlon Cronus BTR, krg bravo with my Picasso painting with a sponge.

this is not the full accuracy potential of this rifle.....was not able to utilize my main shooting bench and had to use this light/portable one.
