I had the pleasure of having Mr. Mark Hampton out to hunt with me for a few days using a new Magnum Research .460 cal handgun on an Axis hunt. We had a few close calls on some monster bucks but honestly it was tough to close the deal with the handgun. Second day into the hunt we jumped a nice buck and we went around to see if we could cut him off, we topped the hill and saw a buck really similar to him and Mark was able to get on him and put on a great shot. When we got up to the buck we noticed his other side of his rack was broke off in velvet which we didnt see right before he shot. He was still happy and it was still a nice buck.
The next morning we woke up about 3:30am to head down to the Devils river for an Aoudad hunt. We did an hour ride down the rough dirt road to get back into the honey hole and right at first light we were on a large herd of Aoudad. We set up and waited for them to come in. There were 3 nice rams in the group and 2 of them were well into the 30 inch range, the 3rd ram a nicer ram with nice chaps was the first to present a good shot so Mark opted to take him. He nailed the ram with an HS Precision .270wsm hand cannon and the ram only went 20 yards before piling up. Not bad for a late June (hot) hunt.
Should also have some video together of the hunt shortly.
