For gin I was splurging on Martin Miller, and then learned that I like Zephyr a little better, but it’s not cheap either. Among the white liqors, my budget buy is Luksusowa. Don’t get me started on Tequila. Patron Silver is my budget buy. Don Julio 1942 is my favorite. I drink it neat.

I don't disagree with you. In fact, you could count me as one that considered most gin as rubbing alcohol. I do like Tanqueray and Beefeater (English version vs US). I also like the Asian Sapphire with some pepper. But regular Bombay, I have had it... I won't ask for it. Just my palate is all.

That said, I am now enjoying a vodka martini with Tahoe Blue vodka, dry, shaken exactly 14 times, with two olives and a lemon twist. Life is good!!

When I was way deep in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, I met a bunch of guys who gave me some shit they make up for themselves...Pulque. It doesnt really get you drunk, but I wanst really sober either. Strange stuff, almost sweet.

I am somewhat of a fanatical purist regarding martinis. I drink gin martinis with a steak. I follow the method used during the early 1920s regarding proportions of gin to vermouth and bitters. I also favor an extremely clear presentation in a proper martini glass so I never shake just stir. That is personal preference.

I am having a glass of French rose before dinner...I am visiting in laws in CA so I don’t have the proper ingredients for a martini though it sure sounds like a great idea

All ya’ll complaining about acid reflux, are you taking omeprazole? I had sever deterioration of the esophagus in my mid 20s found during an endoscopy. I would get heartburn from oatmeal or a cracker. 15 years later and taking omeprazole daily, no issues with anything I eat or drink.

It works. I have an ulcer I got from taking Aleve for arthritis....be careful with that shit it will kill you.

Occasionally if I eat too much spicy food or eat too late at night it flares up. A couple days of omeprazole clears it right up. Trick is to be careful and not get it flared to begin with.

I gave my body a break for a month and stay away from red wine. I also refrain from eating anything for 2.5 hours before going to bed. The combination of late nite food and a belly full of booze really wreaks havoc. I have never taken any meds for it and I can drink today without issues

I can't drink much, the alcohol doesn't agree with me anymore and I just get an upset stomach. But I still like a Schlenkerla (all of them) or a Samuel Smith's (pick a fruit) ale or Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout (what happens when you make beer out of pure coffee) now and again. These are all beers that don't really taste like the average beer and if you can find 'em for less than $6 a bottle these days you're doing damn well.

If you like smoke meat and beer and haven't had Schlenkerla, you're totally missing out on life. The beer is like smoke in a bottle and the stronger the beer, the stronger the smoke. The oak doppelbock at over 8% is something else entirely.

Class Six is the only place that has "decent" prices on the Samuel Smith's IIRC. They don't carry Schlenkerla anymore (damn them) and never did carry Hitachino Nest.

I like a Bourbon Manhattan; Jim Beam, M&R Sweet Vermouth, Angostura bitters, two Maraschino Cherries, and a splash of syrup from the Cherry Jar, all in a large lowball glass with minimal ice for presentation.

Because I am bastardizing the liquor with wine, just about any Bourbon will do; but I've been accustomed to Jim Beam since my early days.

I can recall getting off from work Main Side MCS Quantico (early 1968, doing my short timer end of enlistment duty), and striding into the NCO Club there, usually the first though the door. The walk to the bar was the length of the hall, and she'd get my Bourbon Manhattan started as soon as I breached the Hatch. The Barmaid, Josie, a strapping Philippine girl, would have it ready and waiting as I sat down, exact change plunking down as I sat.

I occasionally substitute Crown Royal for the Jim Beam.

If I'm remembering correctly, the drink cost $.75, I'd proffer a Buck, and the leftover quarter was the tip.

These days, the VFW will make me one for $3.50, and my standard tip for all drinks (but plain soda) is a Buck.

As often as not, the Barmaid is my Granddaughter, Elena. She's being prepped to be the Canteen Manager, at age 22. Her T-Shirt often reads "The Bar is Closed!". Humor, Arr, Arr...

Herradura anejo seems to fit that description pretty well. That's my go to tequila.
I used to buy Espolon occasionally, back when it was less than $20 a bottle, now that it's about $35 it's less of a deal. Corralejo is better IMO, and the same price around here.

But I'm really a bourbon guy who just wants to switch it up occasionally.

Glencairn is indispensable for tasting and evaluating. As you allude, it concentrates the aroma to the nose. I don't care about the weight, it's the quality. For drinking neat, I greatly prefer the Norlan glass. If I want a little less nose, I will use a snifter. I use a tumbler or rocks glass usually only with an ice ball.

Ok, so a mini review of the Woodford I posted above.
The nose is not indicative of the proof. Smells lower, tastes lower and not nearly the Kentucky Hug of similar proofed bourbon. Still, easily recognized as a Woodford product. It's like the regular but more intense. The color is deep with a red hue. Initial taste is full of caramel and chocolate. Like a caramel filled Dove with dark chocolate. It goes into spices with a medium finish. Baking spice and a smidge of pepper at the end.

Bottom line, if you like Woodford, you should love this. Best expression of Woodford out there easily. However, it's not complex (does have the barrel notes of the double oaked) and I can't recommend at the price point. At $120, there's a number of barrel proof options at half the price that are better. 1920 Old Forester is an excellent example. From the same company. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is far better at half the price.

Still, price aside, it's a good pour. Much better than the regular stuff. And, it'll stand up to ice much better if so inclined.
