What do you guys do at work?

I went to college in '08 after losing my job. Got my Tool and Die degree. I work for Danfoss Power Solutions. When I 1st started in machining- tool changes, alarms, debuting, etc.... Then went to assembly when it slowed down. I was a cell expert for a year, then transferred to 1st in assembly. Our company makes hydraulic transmissions and pumps for off road use.

Cust: I only had it a couple of years
You: Mrs Jones, it says here you bought it in 1986
Cust: has it really been that long?

You: Do you change the filter?
Cust: It has a filter?

Cust: I just changed the filter a month or two ago
Me: Then why does the filter look like a piece of plywood? :)

-25 ice cream warehouses are more fun.
Cust: it's been running warm all day
Me: But you waited till 11PM to call us? (always on a Friday).

Welcome to the exciting world of HVAC, in just six months our school can make you a pro. I have found it's better if they come before the school ruins them.

Me: do you understand the Pressure Temperature relationship?
Applicant: Absolutely.
Me: Ok then, here take these gauges and this drum of refrigerant and tell me the temperature in my office.
Applicant: Thousand yard stare. :)
I won't post the company's name, but about 10 years ago they dumped almost 2 semi loads of ammonia before they realized that there was a problem.
Engineer was way out there.
They were very fortunate it was a weekend or they would have killed a bunch of people.

(I'm out of town, traveling on business, so I haven't had a chance to check my snail mail. Will get to that on Saturday  )

(@Bender; how you doing ?)

(@Dirty D; how about you ? Hangin' in there ?)

Spent too many years in the oil field doing cased hole perforation, playing with shaped charges was cool and the paychecks were nice...but the lifestyle is hell, and as i got older i came to the realization that breaking my back for a paycheck is not ideal or likely sustainable.

Just got my first job in IT, remote tech support at a fortune 100 company, not expecting it to be all that great, but I figure it will be a lot easier to transfer to a better job once i have a little bit of verifiable experience on the resume.

I'm a Sales Manager for a $3B Motion Controls company... but really, I'm an Engineer who can actually talk to people.

If you need to move something precisely, there's not much I can't do with hydraulics or brushless motors... I've got solutions in Oil & Gas wells down 5-6 miles into the Earth, and rocket engine controls that launch satellites into orbit. The stuff between almost seems easy, usually.
