Dropped a few times, but still shot perfect. I eventually got the parallax and battery cover replaced through Jerry at Schmidt and Bender. The scope ran perfect despite this unfortunate fall.

A friend of mine had a brand new T4A that had been multicam'd up by Short Bus. We assembled his rifle at my house and the stock needed a little material removed under the bolt handle so it would close all the way without touching. I just instictivley grabbed the Dremel because I do minor work on all my stocks when needed. When I cranked the Dremel up, he literally broke out in a cold sweat! It was funny.

But I have a question for Victory, and probably other members can answer this also. And remember I'm from Iceland - no military - no war.

Why are you using your own rifle when serving your country? Seen this a lot of times and often wondered.

Are you not issued the best, or even adequate gear?

Yes we get issued adequate gear, but that gear doesn't always work the best in certain situations, and there is better gear out there. Our long guns are issued with Leupold optics, which will get the job done, but I sure would rather had S&B's for us like the Marines get issued for their long guns.

I brought my own upper and optic to give myself and my team another tool. I wanted better reach with the rifle over the standard issue upper, and optics. Most engagements in my AO were further than what I felt the standard M4 was able to effectively engage. I was willing to purchase it because my ass was going to be on the line, and I wanted what I believed would be the best option for allowing me to do my job. I figured if I died, then I wouldn't really care if I spent the money, and if I came home, I could just sell it and recoup my money. Once returning, I decided to keep it, figuring that it would be a pretty cool thing to pass on to my son one day. I wasn't in a unit that had a great amount of funding, so if I wanted something other than an ACOG or Aimpoint, I would need to pony up the cash to make it happen. The unit I was in did allow me the ability to run this setup, as I officers that saw the benefit of it. The upper is not a weapon, so I wasn't taking a personal weapon with me. All units are not created equal, and this would probably be frowned on in some. Many units like mine paid for uppers for their teams, mine didn't.

As for the CQBSS's ability to perform, it withstood everything with no issues. It tracked throughout, and I never had zero issues, beyond what all of our rifles had. The only thing that broke on it was the magnet that keep covers closed, and I just glued it back in. We checked and re-zeroed when we could, and before most large missions if time was available.

Did the same thing to both my Manners. Dremeled room for my Timney in my old one before they relieved them more for aftermarket triggers. Drilled a few holes in my EH-1 for a Karsten too, made damn sure they were where I wanted them first but I know there are some out there who couldn't bring themselves to do it.

I don't blame you and would have done the same if I had ever been in those boots. I would sell a lot of meaningless stuff in my life to take quality gear like that if it were my ass on the line as well. They didn't outfit you with top level gear but at least they didn't stop you from bringing your own. Cool story

Thanks for your commitment Victory! Spending money wisely to up your chances of a successful mission is a no brainer for me. The bean counters don't always have you or teammates best interest in mind.

Just because you beat up your gear, doesn't mean everyone else has to beat up theirs to be a cool kid like you. Comparing your combat weapon used in a war zone to the high end, custom made weapons and optics used by civilians isn't exactly apples to apples, is it.

I don't look down my nose at people who work hard and spend a lot of hard earned money on their gear and want to take care of it. And quite frankly, I don't understand why you are so insistent on doing so. We all take pride in our service. But that doesn't give us the right to stand up on a pedestal and mock everyone else for not having done so.

I never said anyone has to beat his or her equipment up. Rifles get wear with USE, be it running comps, dropping them, duty use, or just punching paper. They don't get wear from sitting in a safe or from never being shot.

If you want to have an opinion on the durability of an optic, you should have some experience in that area. What makes this site great is the number of people here that do have experience with the topics being discussed, not just fan boys with Google. A lot of this site is made up of industry professionals, military members, LEO, pro hunters, and comp shooters from all disciplines. Lately a lot of those people are leaving, because anytime they voice an opinion of gear they have used, they are attacked because some internet fan boy with 100 rounds through his rifle gets butt hurt when they say something negative about their favorite piece of expensive infallible gear.

I don't really get why you are butt hurt that I posted some pics of an optic that has been used hard and wanted to see more. I'm not trying to strut around; I could give a shit what anyone on here thinks of my service or me.

You can spin your shit however you want, you are coming across as a fan boy who has a safe full of rifles that never get shot. But hey, it's the Internet, I have my opinion, you have yours. And for the record, I've learned more about shooting from the civilian shooters on here than I have from probably 75% of the instructors I've encountered in the military, but those shooters all had experience and knowledge to back up their opinions, not just Google.

No one can bring their own weapon to theater. Believe me, we ran it all the way to the Division Commander. Scopes & other items were over looked by both our command & navy customs (even though they are technically restricted for export). They could have been dicks about it, hell they busted Blackwater with felony charges of firearms but they left us alone so long as it wasn't a firearm or ammunition.

Coming from a guy who owns an AI PSR & AT, I love those systems, but I wouldn't call the the holy grail of weapons systems. Just a different set of tools. I don't go to comps (yet) or run them hard at the range because I am a double above knee amputee I still do what I can with what Ive got left. But I have taken the PSR in some courses without giving a shit if I end up getting it dinged up (I did had some fun f***ing trouble with it though), will take a my AT on a couple course the start of the new year as well. Also, you will have guys on here that will not post anything about their high end equipment because you'll have too many haters/fanboys who will say "you've could've gotten 2 of these for the price of 1 of those" or "thats an overpriced piece of s***/equipment" when in more cases than not, they've personally never got to play with one, Just joining the f***ing haterade bandwagon. So you've got them on both sides. I still respect those who've worked hard for their gear and want to take care of it as much as possible. To test your shit for ultimate reliability, ruggedness, and repeatability would be in the suck, but most people wont have have the chance to do so. So running comps will be the best alternate way, as well as taking some courses to see in fact if that system is best for you & hunting too.. Ive shown pics to some SS buddies of my gear and they def want to camo it up lol. l'll think about that hahaha.

I figured I was done with this topic, but you got me to post again. Awesome to hear that you are competing even as a double amputee. It's amazing how far prosthetics have come in the past 10 years. I have a lot of friends who have lost limbs over the past 10 years. It was heart breaking at the time seeing them, knowing how active they were, and in my mind at the time, thinking they were out of the game. Thankfully a lot of them are still able to do everything they did before, and now get to look like badasses doing it.

If you ever want to do a comp, I guarantee you there is a hide member near you that would be more than willing to help you out with it. You would be surprised at your ability to compete in a lot of tactical matches. Most don't have you on the clock getting from one firing point to the next. You should look into it, I promise you will be glad you did.

And if you are confined to a chair, fuck it, I bet someone would push you and you can rock a tripod if needed. The shooting community is full of people willing to help out and give you the shirt off of their back if needed.
