So the scouts have taken a turn for the worse. Frankly it's been watered down to the point where I don't really care. Between allowing girls to join and pedo issues I've given up.
Do you guys think there'd be any interest in a new organization more along the lines of what scouts used to be? I'm thinking of an all male organization that teaches boys how to become men. REAL MEN. I'm thinking a loose network of individual charters. I'd like to see:
1. A big emphasis on community service
2. Hunting, fishing and survival skills
3. Basic financial management
4. Basic home repair, appliance repair, auto/small engine repair etc.
5. Physical fitness standards
6. Possibly a little boxing, wrestling etc.
7. REAL CAMPING. No trailers, four course meals or any of that. You get one pack, load it up with what you need and that's it.
8. A variety of DIY project exposure, application for critical thinking and hands on problem solving not found in a traditional classroom.
9. Introduction to outdoor sports like shooting, archery etc.
10. An introduction to the legal process, legislation and taxation.
We have way too many single moms raising kids and a trend towards boys growing up to be soft. I don't like where this is headed now that the scouts have crumbled. Support would come through the local community and in the form of sharing experience rather than financial contributions. I'm talking local tradesmen, attorneys, contractors, avid hunters/fishermen/shooters etc.
Do you guys think there'd be any interest in this? I'm seriously considering starting a 501(c)(3) to try to get the ball rolling on something like this. It'd be volunteer only. No payroll, no perks or benefits other than the satisfaction of giving back to the community. Each charter would operate as an independent entity that is free to request grants from the parent NPO for liability purposes.
Any input is appreciated.
