Re: what is the best scope to use for long distanc
Most of the members(I would think) are amateurs, and yes, everyone has to start somewhere. If you can handle the ribbing you are recieving for asking a "newbie" question, and learn from it, You really can learn a lot here. Believe me, you are not the first to recieve the "treatment".
Honestly, all joking aside, Here are two good options in your price range (under $1000):
a) Sightron SIII 6-24X50mm for $759 I've heard they are excellent glass for the money.
b)Vortex Viper PST 6.5-24X50mm for $749 for SFP (second focal plane), or $899 for FFP (first focal plane) This is the scope I've settled on. Available with .1 mil or 1/4moa adjustments. As soon as they become available, this will give you just about everything you could possibly want in a scope for under a grand.
25X will probably be all the magnification you will need, but if you feel you need more, Sightron also makes the SIII in a
8-32X56mm for $841, and a 10-50X60mm for $994.
Just keep in mind, the higher the magnification, the less elevation adjustment you will get, which you will need for long range shooting. You can compensate for this with a canted base, but then you bottom out on adjustment for shooting at closer ranges.
I hope this helps, and welcome to the Hide.
