A friend of me bought a used rifle package with the Rem 700 and a Meopta 4-16x44 scope and a suppressor.

We took the rifle to the range and check that it was correctly zeroed at 100M or 110yards.

The rifle was pretty much spot on, but he only has 5 clicks of adjustment left.

First we thought maybe the rings had some MOA build into them and they where placed the wrong way, but the gun store said they where correct.

The scope only has 42 MOA of adjustment according to the manufacturers website.

Does anyone know what is wrong and a solution?

Re: What is wrong with my scope???

they measured the rings next to some leupold rings and found no difference, they allso said tat it is not possible to mount the rings wrong.
is it possible that the rifle is zeroed at the first point of intersection instead of the second?

Re: What is wrong with my scope???

There could be 20 reasons why it only has 5 moa left, with either the scope, the mounts, the rifle, caliber, etc. Scopes very seldom sit in the middle of the adjustment range once zeroed.

Re: What is wrong with my scope???

sadly yes, so i'm trying to eliminate some of them, because my friend is thinking of returning it to Meopta, but i don't think that the scope is the problem.

+1 to the 20 MOA base comment. Look at the scope base and see if you spot a 20MOA on it anywhere if not it might be under the base between the action bolt port.

Re: What is wrong with my scope???

Maybe I am making a fool out of myself, but the bullet starts out below the scope, then travels up past the scope before desending down to the zeroed point. looked at a table that stated that if you are shooting at 600 yards, the bullet will be around 15 inches above the bore at 100yards, something that would require a 15MOA adjustment. with a 100yard zero.
Since the scope only has 42 MOA of adjustment, lets say 21 MOA in each direction, you would have to crank your turret all the way up.
So if i understand correctly, depending on the ratio between the bore and scope, your drop, and everything else.
A zero at 600 yards will also give you a roughly 100 yard zero at the same setting, since the bullet passes the line of sight twice.

Re: What is wrong with my scope???

If you zeroed at 600 yards, they yes what you are saying does happen. It would be near 15ish inches above the 100 yard zero. But if it is 15 inches above a 100 yard zero, not sure how you are figuring a 100 and 600 yard zero are the same.

With a 600 yard zero your bullet would pass over your line of sight withing 20 yards and not drop below it again until 600 yards.

AT at 100 yard zero, at least with a .308 the bullet goes above the line of sight around 60 yards and they drops below again at 100 yards. So all that take place before you reach 100 yards. From that point on the bullet is always below the line sight. This is all assuming your scope is not crazy high or anything.

First off, try different mounts if you can. Then try a different rifle, then try a different scope with those mounts and rifles.

Re: What is wrong with my scope???

I will take another look at the scope and mount on thursday, switch the scope with my rifle and see if anything changes.

once again, thank you for all help and insight.
