Generally mag length for 243 & 308 which is why I prefer to use SMKs since they're tolerant of jumping.

2 Rem 700 in 308, anything over mag length is a no go for me.

I think what your shooting off the lands / caliber would be more appropriate in reference. No two guns are alike as the saying goes when it comes to chambers and bores.

Rem 700 5-R Milspec.
Tried all different lengths but 2.800" with 175gr BTHP @ 2550-2600 fps does the best. Only change to rifle is Timney trigger and 7 round mag extension.
The leade on this rifle is so long I barely have any bullet in seated in the neck when I try to reach the lands. Would rather be able to feed from the extended mag. Accuracy is as good as .191" 5-shot group @100 yards.
