The frame of the knife is an Al Mar Eagle that Al Mar personally gave to me back in the 1980's. Because it has keepsake value for me, when the original blade wore out from use, I asked the current owner of Al Mar Knives (Mr. Gary Fadden, great guy) if a new blade could be installed...price no object.
Gary said they couldn't do that as the manufacturer's changed.

So I took the knife apart, and made a blade out of 1095 tool steel, heat treated it, and put the knife back together. It is sort of an Al Mar frame with an unusual tool steel blade..one of a kind. The 1095 blade cuts like no body's business.

I've got a Delica with that modification, too. A minute with a grinder made it a little more usable (at the expense, probably, of some hardness at the tip):

That one lives in my glovebox now, attached to a pry bar so I won't snap the tip off again.

The knife in my pocket every day is this fancy thing, a Spyderco Caly3 that Gail Glesser sold me 10 years ago:

I just got a Spyderco Manix 2 light weight, it is very nice.

The Spyder hole makes it super easy to open one handed without tearing up your thumb, it is pretty light for the size so it doesn't weigh down my pants as much as the standard Manix 2 and the wire pocket clip let's it ride pretty low for a much lower profile.

I tried to make a Kershaw Emerson work for me but I can't adjust the blade to my liking so instead of having a cheapo, I'm back to a $100 knife that I have to care about more...

IF I am going offshore fishing my EDC changes to a more practical than tactical choice. These are Spyderco's "Enuff Sheepfoot Salt"(fixed blade) & "Salt II FRN" (folder). The sheepsfoot blade style is safer for use on wet moving decks when the knife or your feet can get away from you or importantly release yourself from some type of entanglement with deck lines or big fishing tackle. The H1 steel blade is rust-proof.

As a side note, recently Human Resource managers of global maritime vessels are either completely prohibiting mariners possession of knives on board due to the injuries, or restrict the blade style to one like the sheepsfoot profile.

Ok, so I'm not going to switch from Spyderco... But I borrowed the wife's EDC 707 Sequel the other day and now I see why you guys like your 940s so much. The Sequel is a solid little knife, and that Axis lock is genius.
