What Magnum Has the Best Barrel Life?

Tell me more about it being illegal to unscrew a metal tube.

R

It is illegal for everyone who is not a gunsmith to change or modify a barrel, receiver or firing mechanism in once "good" old Germany.
That´s the law.

When I see the prices you guys pay for guns and ammo I´m almost crying myself into sleep - not.

Honestly, some stuff is between more expensive up to almost double the price.
The cheapest AR15 you can get over here for example is about 1,000 Euro, that´s roundabout 1,100 Dollars.

Damn, I'll bet that really made a difference.
Kinda like saying mean things on social media being outlawed.

OP seems more of a Facebook type than ARFCOM, based on the “You guys on these forums” comment, along with the dumbass question from the get-go. Bet he shoots MOA too, but thinks it works like IPHY...
I bet he is a paper plate at 100 type of guy that currently owns a .270 and a 3x9 centerpoint scope.

Well, bygod, you miserable pricks made my day. I haven't laughed this hard for some time and I really did need to have the laughs and entertainment.

I think this Site is frequented by a bunch of Assholes,-- just like me, ---And, some FOOL came here just to entertain us. Bless his heart.

Damn, I am proud of you all. FM

What you basically asked is,"Which race car gets the best gas mileage?"

Then you made it even worse (and funnier) by getting fucking indignant about it.
The "which race car gets the best gas mileage" could be legit. I mean back in the day McLaren TAG-Porsche beat almost everybody even being down a lot in qualifying trim horsepower because they could run full power the entire race, whereas the Renaults and BMW would run out of gas if running anywhere near full boost. Same in most sports car racing where they've capped the fuel use and even F-1 today if they miscalculate burn rate.

But I get your point...to the average "user" of a "pre-owned" sports racer, nobody's asking that question :) :).

Maybe which drag racer gets the best gas mileage.

What magnum, with factory brass, from short action to CIP mag compatible, has the best 'barrel life'? The barrel will be swapped once groups get above .5 moa.
My factory Tikka T3x Lite in 7 RemMag is probably at 1200 rounds and is still. Anywhere between 0.5-1moa depending on my load and my shooting abilities. I have the action in a Manners MCS T4 and its fantastic. I've been trying to justify replacing the factory barrel, but just can't.

Therein lies the problem, the op gave no specifics.

Oh, you must mean this Jeannie.......:ROFLMAO:

Well, the OP is gone. Damn.
I was going to say any Weatherby. They start off with the lands wore out.
Or .375 H&H. Your shoulder will wear out before the barrel and you don't have to worry about the damn magazine!

I would about bet that some Fartknocker, from within our ranks, put the OP in just to troll us, get some laughs, entertain us, and give us something to think about and be happy about because we are NOT Happy about all of the Fuckery going on in OUR Country now.

Whoever you are, OP, you have done a fine Job. I have really enjoyed the thread. FM

Anywhere between 0.5-1moa depending

Get with the program!
That thing is over half moa....you gotta chuck it up and chuck it out!

Yeah, I actually didnt see that half moa comment from OP until last night. That comment makes me think we've been played, or have a really live one.

I apologize guys, I barely got the scent of askhole before taking off chasing him in a full out run.

"....above .5 moa....." ......fucking hilarious.

Its all kind of funny. Back in the day (that would be the 1950’s and 1960’s, worrying about burning up a barrel was all the rage and the success of a product was dependent on how long the barrel would last. My guess is that the .22 Swift brought all of this on. But, the Swift was probably the only round that was ever shot enough by riflemen to actually damage a barrel. I doubt that the ammunition costs and the reason to be using a high powered rifle in the first place so limited use that barrel degradation in Real Time, Real Use ever occurred. (Hard as it may seem, limited reloading and cartridge costs of $4.95 for 20 were significant expenses in 1964.)

So, now we have people who really shoot a lot. It all really started with IHMSA and NRA Rifle Silhouette. One had to shoot a bit to be proficient. And, having to put 5 rounds down a barrel in less than 2 minutes and shoot 40 rounds on a hot day in an hour or less actually put some stress on a barrel. Now, we really shoot, shoot a lot. A hundred or more rounds per day. As I said, back in the day, many rifles never got shot a hundred times during the lifetime of the owner. AND we worried about burning out a barrel. We made purchases based on finding a rifle that would not burn a barrel out in 1500 rounds and then never shot it more than five times a year, for twenty years.

What a joke.

Barrels are truly like tires, if you don’t use them, they will probably rust away (as unused tires die from dry rot/UV destruction.) Yes, even stainless.
