Funny I shot 44.7 grs of varget for 175 smk as well. When I shot 168 SMK's 8208 worked very well. Switched to 175"s and Varget, good results. The 700 based 308 (11.25" twist) will handle 45 grs. of Varget with a 175. The 1-10" AIAT gives best results with 44.7 grs.
All my 8208 data is buried in a moving crate somewhere.

What powder or powders have y'all had the best luck with shooting SMK's in 168 or 175 GR bullets?
You can share loads or how far you are jumping these bullets also if you want.
Thanks
I haven't found that sweet spot yet. What kind of case were you putting 45GRS of varget in and seating a bullet? I shot 44GRS of varget in Lapua brass and it was full. It also was running 2805 FPS and loosening up primer pockets. That's out of a 24" Brux 11.25 twist barrel. I know every barrel is different. When I shot 168 SMK's 8208 worked very well. FPS?Not wanting to speak for him but He may have a non-sammi chamber....PTG’s 308 Win tactical match reamer allows me to run 45.3g Varget and a 9 1/2 primer with no visible pressure signs (case does expand by .0015 just above the extractor grove so I know I’m knocking on the door at pressure. I have a 12 twist.
FPS?

I'm not competing and I've grown tired of hand weighing each charge so I tweaked my set up some. I have switched to ball powders for my reloading, for .308 I have gone to AA2520. I stopped reloading 5.56 but when I did it 2520 worked great. People talk about it being unstable and I am sure it is but I didn't notice it in the conditions that I shot in. It used to take me an hour to load 100 rounds of ammo now I can do it in about 20 minutes.
I haven't had my 308 long, but I use unique in 54r, x39, 300 sav, 06 with lead and jacketed bullets.Anybody load subsonic 308 using something other than trailboss? I've been using 175 smk's with 10 gr of TB but was wondering if there are other powder options
Have you ever tried Alliant's Pro 2000MR? A couple years back I tried a pound of it and the load I came up with for my gun performed really well (like with 49.0 grs) . . . as long as the ambient temperature remained within a narrow margin. If found it to be particularly sensitive to the Arizona summer heat. With the range of temps here an using ball powers here, I've have to develop load for various temp ranges and then keep a close eye on ambient temps.
IMR 4064 and 175 SMK's are kindred spirits. What powder or powders have y'all had the best luck with shooting SMK's in 168 or 175 GR bullets?
