Suppressors What Suppressor to buy?

I know dick about suppressors, but lots about guns. I would like to buy one that I can thread for a few different rifles. I don't need one that attaches to a muzzle brake, just screws on. Can i buy one fo a 308 and use it on my 6mm, 6.5 and 223 rifles. Also...$$$ is Definately a concern. I do not need top of the line here. My son wants to shoot my rifles and he is 10. I need to reduce recoil and noise for him.

I have a Yankee Hill for my son's AR, works pretty well, he can get off 3 to 4 shots before the feral hogs start to scatter

Also, This unit will work on my M4 in .223, it does reduce the noise , but not as much as I expected, the .308 is much more quiet that the .223 ,with the .308 suppressor,I believe it still allows to much gas to escape

I bought an SWR OMEGA-300 . I use it on a .300 WIN MAG , also 7.62 and 5.56 . It is threaded 5/8" x 24 . I use an adapter for the 1/2" x 28 . They sound like .22 rifle ...

Forget the name brand BS when it comes to cans... a can is a can... its a pipe with baffels in it... I dont know why everyone makes a huge deal about it. Go YHM in .30 or similar I would go with 5/8x24 for the threads as they are very common threading you will run across for a lot

That is definitely not true. If it were, then all cans would meter the same. Material, baffle design, volume, etc. all contribute and effect how well a suppressor works.

Deciding which suppressor is right for you comes down to deciding which things are most important and how much you're willing to spend.

Cans are not cans....no disrespect to your reply...but that's simply not true. Some are more quiet than others and as for durability and longevity there is a difference. I use Shark Suppressors and demo them here at TVP. We use lots of different cans here. Sharks are made of titanium and inconel which is basically a lifetime can where others may have a "lifetime" warranty but not a life time can. Anyone,if your in our area...Coshocton, Ohio... who would like to demo a "Shark Suppressor" is welcome to make an appointment or show up to one of our shoots to see how they perform. And when it comes to AR cans there's a considerable difference....especially on full-auto. Also..do a search on YouTube and you can see can owners comparing performance. AR cans are a breed of their own...it's just simply harder to suppress the AR .223 for some reason.

Also, some muzzle brakes are more accurate than others...same goes with cans, after harmonics it's turbulance.

Couldn't agree more. I have had the opportunity to operate, own and co-develop a few suppressors over the years for different applications. Not one company has all the answers in their inventory to respond to all the different applications, weapons and budgets. So you need to research, discuss and ask questions before you make that $200.00 tax stamp decision. Don't get to wrapped up on the "weight" or name brand. Look at all your options and if you get an opportunity to see them in a demo, by all means make every effort to make it.

You will never be disapointed with a Shark can top notch craftsmanship the are by far the best cans I have heard. And not to mention David is a super nice guy he helped me out with my first can I just cant say enough about him and his product. Go Shark!

Thanks, I was asked if you could have both a suppressor and a muzzle brake on the same barrel? is this doable? is it necessary or do you just unscrew the muzzle brakes and install the can when you want it attached?

Check out OPS inc. and Advanced Armament Corp.
Both systems allow the permanent install of the muzzle brake and the suppresor mounts over it.

You are so poorly informed it's not worth a detailed reply. Go to a suppressor shoot with several different "cans" and surprise yourself. Hmmm ... why does that one make my ears ring .... why is this one so heavy ... why is that one so big ... why is this one so small ...

An AAC Cyclone would work well for what you want. The YHM is a good option too but, watch out for QD adapter expense.

ok...i am looking into mounting one on my model 700 vls. i do hunt with this rifle, so i would need to beable to remove it. would it benefit me to get the YHM with the QD mount? or should i just go with the standard threaded can

I don't know for sure about Texas hunting regs, but as was posted in another thread, non game species is allowed and game species is not allowed.

So the added time and inconvience of a thread can would not be realized.

In your situation a thread on can and a thread protector is what I would go with.

The question is how much are you going to be mounting and removing the can.

I have a SRT 300 Win Mag can (Stainless) and a Thunder beast Arms I(titanium). I've shot them next to a Shark and have to say that if I could do it over again (without loosing the $400 in taxes I have) I would sell them and get a Shark. It seems to have a little bit better sound suppression than my SRT with the weight of the Thunder Beast. He is a super guy as well. When I have some more money laying around, I might have to sell what I have and upgrade...

As a fan of quiet shooting I would say hell yes !.
At the very least get the barrel threaded for the future.
The times for approval are getting upwards of 4 months.

essentially, it would come off the begining of hunting season and go back on at the end of hunting season. i realize about hunting regs in texas and not being allowed to hunt game species with a can, which is why i asked about that QD mount, that way i can quickly change. but durring the off season, late winter to fall, i would mostlikely leave it on

I would recommend a QD over a thread-mount, such as the YHM 7.62.. it's a great value now in SS, I've got one on my DPMS .308

Well here's another opinion. I use an Elite Iron Bravo 30 on my FN SPR. Full power 308 loads are quieter than a 22 long rifle. Can is brick shithouse strong and uses 17-4 ph stainless baffles. His suppressors meter quieter than many of the well known brands. Silencerresearch.com will be reviewing a new batch of his suppressors soon. His prices are very reasonable too. dB testing = Where the uninformed go to get information that the misinformed propegate. dB testing is a pressure test and as such is almost wholly useless when comparing the top end units. As such, SilencerResearch is almost equally useless when testing the top end units.

I am not saying the any providers unit is better or worse. Just that dB testing is not the best way to judge the top providers.

But at least one can hear the different suppressors side by side, tested in the same conditions. Good tool to use as a starting benchmark.Then take into consideration other factors that will affect your buying decision.

Anhyone here shoot a shark can next to the Cyclone and hte HVT or Sandstorm?

Anyone here compare the point of impact shoft for each of the cans?

Anyone here compare the repeatability od the POI shift when the cans are mounted/dismounted/remounted?

Anyone ever meter the Shark can along with the Cyclone and HVT or Sandstorm?

Just curious as the Shark has a loyal following, but no one has ever produced any objective testing that I have found and the SHARK is uber expensive.

the reason I ask is that I have had several people tha tI prepared trusts for come in and ask about the SHARK.

I have the HVT QD and flip flop between my 308 bolt gun and AR15. I'm very happy with the sound suppression on both rifles BUT have never shot next to another suppressor of the same caliber. The QD is very nice and POI shift is consistent and very minor.

So why is it worthless if they are tested on the same gun with the same ammo in the same conditions with a consistent method of testing?

The only main variable would be the suppressor itself.

I have a advanced armament 7.62 sd. It came with 1 quick detach flash suppressor (threads 5/8 x 24). Paid $750 + $200 tax. Extra flash suppressors are about $100. Use it on a 308win, a 260 rem,and a 243win. Very little recoil and low muzzle blast noise. Takes about 3 seconds to screw on or off.

i like surefire but have never used one my self due to where i live i do how ever have a surefire muzzle brake thats about to be installed with in the next month
