Re: Whats BEST way to mt a scope on 91/30 mosin
Well, to leave it pure and with the ability to reconvert it to "as is" condition you'd need to look for a scout scope mount and a scout scope, what you pretty much are doing is removing the rear leaf sight and mounting a rail in it's place.
Long eye relief scope will go on the mount. Then if you want to put it back to military issue all you do is put it back together. Nice thing about this setup is it keeps it rather low to the barrel so you still get a nice cheek weld, bad thing is, scout scopes are somewhat lacking in the magnification department, at least when I researched a similar project awhile back they were, don't know about now.
That's probably the only way you'd get around not having to modify the bolt handle. I've seen custom mounts that put the scope extremely high to clear, but I've got a 91/30 sniper with PU Scope and my biggest obstacle is cheek weld and proper holding due to the lack of parralax, I can't even imagine the issues a higher scope would bring without a modification to the buttstock and a rising comb of some sort.
Something like this:

But I don't know the quality or reputation of that web page, so that's more of just a general idea type of thing.
I don't suggest the ATI scope mount method simply because of the way they have you do the bolt.

Even on a good day I've never had a range session with my mosin where I didn't have to use quite a bit of force to lift the bolt handle, I would not trust a screw in method in any way shape or form. I could be wrong, but just the fact that you're screwing a bolt handle on is just asking for trouble in my opinion
However, if you have some know how and are able to modify the bolt yourself, or there's a few places available online where you send them the bolt body and they do the bent bolt handle conversion for you, you can take a decent shooting mosin and turn it into a faux sniper. There's some cheapo PU reproduction scopes out there:

But I can not attest to the quality of this scope or mount combo. Or you could go the slightly more expensive route and look into an original PU scope. Classic Arms just got a bunch of authentic PU Scopes in stock.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
