What's going on with this rifle, REAL or FAKE?

So I'm out running errands, have a bit of time to kill, so I stop at a local pawn shop. On the rack with the usual assortment of stuff is a heavy barrel Savage, marked 110V, in .223. I think long action with 223, and I've never heard of a "V" model, so I ask to see it. It's a got a long heavy barrel (I'm guessing 26"), blued finish, and internal mag wood stock, with stippling running from grip to halfway along the bottom of the stock.

So I figure, homemade custom job, but SUPPOSEDLY, it's original. The stippling is pretty poor quality IMO, the outline isn't even straight, so I give the appropriate half second pause to convey that I doubt what I heard, and resume looking over the rifle, before thanking him for the time and heading out.

So I look it up in my Standard Catalog of Firearms, and of course, no "V" model is listed, and searching online gives me a whole bunch of peoples custom varmint models, and a couple references to J actions.

At this point, I would normally say, BS, sounds made up,

BUT, google images found this for "Savage 110V", and the stock stippling is the same. So now I'm wondering, am I looking at this exact rifle (pretty slim chance), or did Savage crank out 110V's with goofy stippling in this configuration?

A 223 in a long action? I can't see Savage putting something like that out on the market honestly. Call Savage and see if they know anything about them?

Back in the late 70's and early 80's Salvage(my choice of spelling) made a 112J as you mentioned. Stippled stock but a single shot action. Pretty meaty stock IIRC. Never owned one personally but had a friend who had one in a Swift and it shot pretty descent. Think they made them in 22/250, Swift, probably 243 and IIRC 25-06 and 308? Maybe even in 222 and/or 223? Not a Savage fan so never quite kept track of all calibers available. Back then Savage was like Winchester, neither had a short action and built 222's etc on their long actions. Dropping a deuce round into a LA Win 70 left alot of unused space.lol

Wonder if the 110V wasn't a later repeater version of the 112J?? Guess the actions were pretty descent and slick. Savage did do some pretty descent metal and stock work during that era.

Re: What's going on with this rifle, REAL or FAKE?

I had a Savage long action 223 with the regular plastic stock. The bolt was marked "tactical". Had trouble feeding long 75gr bullets in it for some reason, regular 55gr fed ok. Made a block in the mag well to help. Tried selling it, couldn't get what I wanted for it, so I sold the barrel and stock, sent the action to SSS and ended up with a 284 Winchester in a Choate tactical stock. Has a Shilen barrel on it now.

I have a 112fv in 22-250 long action. At one time I have 2 savages in 243, both factory 1 was short action and 1 was long action. I have never seen one with that type of stock before.I know savage was never shy about the 26" heavy barrels thats what my 112 has on it.

It's genuine they made 110V & 110S both were heavy barrel, if I remember correctly 110V's were the varmint calibers of the day and 110S' were larger cals(mine was a .308). It was quite the shooter.

Real, I have one in 22-250 in the shop right now for a rebarrel. New never fired but the factory bore looks awful rough. This one has a similar stippled stock and is a la single shot.

15+ years ago there was no such thing as a short action savage, all the rifles were built on one action and it was long.

Isn't there a difference with the "J' series? I believe it was a little shorter than the regular Savage long action. I have read that it was savage's first short action.
