What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

That .45 Colt is the absolutely superior hand gun round in all aspects, and that 1911's are more expensive because of that.

You must mean .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol). The .45 Colt aka .45 Long Colt was used in the old Colt Single Action Army revolvers, aka the Peacemakers.

You don't happen to work behind the gun counter at Cabela's, do you?

I broke my Poor weather hunting rifle stock last fall, ( Savage Axis ) and wanted to see what an Axis II cost due to the better trigger. I stopped into my local BassPro Shop, and asked the Man behind the counter if they had one in stock, and what it would cost to ordered. He said strongly that the Axis II didnt have the adjustable trigger, and tried to upsell me. When I pulled up the Savage Web site on my phone. showing him, he just walked away..

Yesterday while picking up my freshly barreled AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor an old timer saw it and took interest. He was asking how far it could be shot. I was explaining that there are some people that are good enough shots making hits at a mile. The kid behind the counter chimes in, "Actually you can only shoot 6.5 Creedmoor out to 1600 yards. It has to do with ballistic charts and stuff."

Removing material has never made a structure stronger

How about reducing stress concentrations with holes? You'd be removing material and making the part less prone to failure. If you have a stress concentration, you can remove material around the stress concentration, such as drilling a hole at the leading edge of a fatigue crack. In this way, you are removing material and the result is a stronger structure. That would be stronger in my book.

So I was on a flight home and this marine range master was beside me. We got talking and he was trying to tell me that after 800 yards a 50 bmg starts to tumble end over end because it starts to "spin back on itself" and that's why it was so accurate.

Needless to say I'm glad the flight landed ten minutes later.

The military has all kinds of bullshit myths. I was told several times during my career that .50 is so powerful if the bullet gets with in a few feet of you the shockwave will kill you. All kinds of dumb crap. Just because your .mil doesn't mean you know dick about guns, the same as LEOs.

You are right about that!

I hear it all the time over here, from hunters, that a .30-06, will absolutely destroy any deer and leave such a huge exit wound because it is so damn powerful.

It then makes me so glad to show them the carnage and exit wound from my kills with a 6.5 creedmoor and my brother in law's .270.

“No way you are a sniper, you are like 5’6 and weigh like 120lbs you aren’t even big enough to shoot those guns. You look nothing like Chris Kyle and my brother is in the Airforce so I know you aren’t”.

While i was RSO, running an m9 fam fire and alt c qual on baf, af. A SFC tells a new pistol shooter that they need to aim above the head of the target to hit center mass because 9mm has a ton of drop at 25 meters. Same NCO who goes up to qual and does not get expert right away makes the claim that his sights on his m9 are not zero'd.........

I told the ex-wife not to drive the car into Mexico when we lived on the border. The auto insurance didn't provide coverage in Mexico. It was a short walk from the US side into Ciudad Acuña. So the car wasn't really needed anyway.

Anyway, I told her that we didn't have insurance coverage to drive into Mexico. She asked why that was important.

I told her that it was a big deal if she got into an accident.

Her reply was, "I won't get into an accident."

That's one of the first few indicators letting me know I married the wrong person.

This is the stupidest you've heard? I mispronounce words on purpose so assholes will correct me, it tells you something about a person. I use clip instead of magazine to get reactions.

Lol, somedays a guy just wakes up and declares that today is a glorious day for my inner asshole to surface.

I can remember once at our state range, on the 200 yard line, a guy with his GF is a few benches over shooting an AR. Eventually, he pulls out an 870 and starts launching slugs downrange. I can see and hear them slamming into the railroad ties on the berm in front of the pits. I asked him where he was holding on the target frame (to kind of start a dialogue) and what slugs he was shooting, (side note, we have had issues with guys shooting up the ties like this guy was doing, and I wanted to get him up over the pits before we had more shot up stuff to repair) After a minute or two I asked him if he knew how much a shotgun slug dropped at 200 yards, and how high someone would have to hold over at that distance. He said that in most shotguns they dropped a lot, but his gun shot them like lasers, only dropping a couple inches.
