I have a etiquette question for the mambers of the Hide

some years ago i had the oportunity to visit the Arazona memorial, I felt in awe of the place and was moved after reading the names listed there!
as the shuttle boat aproached the memorial i removed my hat and kept it off until we left, but i noticed there were many folks who didnt feel the need to remove their covers.
how would you handle this situation?

Re: whats you take?

tHose basderdz, iD h0ld tham down and make tham read yo rightng.

Really though there is nothing you can do and it's not worth getting bent out of shape about it. At least they're there...

Re: whats you take?

My wife and I were/are Active Duty military, we feel the same when we visit Arlington. Just cant bring ourselves to take pictures or to talk above a low whisper. The one that really gets us is pictures, talking, cellphones, and what not during changing of the guard. But a lot of people cant really grasp it because they never been there or understand what it all means to someone who has served and cared. We just have to understand that its ignorance, and I mean that in the most polite way. Such as their lack of knowledge. The most we can do is show them most care and keep the memory of those who came before us and respect what they have given.

We went a few years ago and were taken aback by the lack of respect demonstrated by some of the visitors. One family let their teenagers play tag out on the memorial. Running and screaming...Mom even had to decide if brother actually tagged sister or if it was a "do over" since a tourist blocked her escape.

I will say the most respect was shown by the Asian tourist group. Didn't hear a lick of English and I'm not sophisticated enough to know what language was being spoken but, hats were off, voice were muted, and a respect was being shown.

I personally felt unworthy to be out there and embarrassed by the idiots.

Re: whats you take?

Most people don't know what the proper etiquette is because they've never been taught. We live in an age that lacks tradition unless it's consumer related.

Best thing you can do is be the example. Actions speak louder than words.
