Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

as cliche as it sounds The Godfather trilogy just because there are so many different plot lines and themes going on at any one time

plus the dialogue is to die for...no pun intended

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

All those already listed are great. Another great one that does not get a lot of play is Donnie Brasco. Awesome movie based on true events.

Does "Ronin" count? ex-CIA and foreign-intelligence mercenaries as "gangsters"!? </div></div>

I don't think Heat or Ronin count, but they are both fantastic movies.

Mine are probably:

Casino
Donnie Brasco
Goodfellas
Mobsters
Things to do in Denver when you're Dead. (I think that counts)
Pulp Fiction (also pretty sure it counts)
Snatch
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (sort of counts)
Rock'n Rolla
The Usual Suspects (probably doesn't count)

Some of those probably aren't traditional mob/gangster movies, but great nonetheless.

That's all I can think of right now.

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

"Things Change"
Gino, an Italian-American shoe-shiner with a remarkable similarity to a certain mafia don, is paid to take the rap for a murder. Jerry, a two-bit gangster on probation, is given a chance for redemption by guarding Gino for the weekend. But instead of sitting around a dingy hotel room, Jerry decides to give Gino a weekend to remember, taking him to Lake Tahoe. Jerry's bragging to his friends of his important charge, as well as Gino's dignified, quiet demeanor, soon result in much complication for them both.

Directed by...wait for it...David Mamet

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

I loved Casino and Goodfellas but others listed are great too. Tough call. Anyone ever see A Bronx Tale? It was directed by Robert DeNiro. and he also is in the movie, plays a father who drives a bus for a living? Not a real hardcore gangster flick, but it was still a decent show.

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

Do not classify the Godfather as "gangster" so Goodfellas leads the pack.. however, several right behind -
Serious plot
Gangster #1 - British
Layer Cake - British

On the lighter side
Things Change
Snatch

</div></div>The title of the thread is " Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?" so I'd say that Godfather definitely fits.

Hard for me to pick one though.

Scarface
Godfather
Carlito's Way
The Untouchables
Goodfellas
A Bronx Tale
Donnie Brasco

Honorable mentions...

The Departed
Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels
Gangs of New York
American Ganster
Menace II Society
New Jack City
Belly

The rest are along the lines of gangster I guess...

Snatch
Reservoir Dogs
Dead Presidents
Heat
Pulp Fiction
Natural Born Killers
No Country For Old Men
The Usual Suspects
The Town
Ronin
The Italian Job

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

I agree with redirt on his excellent list but for me Scarface is it. "All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break them for no one." Very hard in my mind to beat that.

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

I like "The Departed" and I think "Snatch" is pretty good too. Of course the classic gangster movies like "Goodfellas", "Godfather" and the rest are good, I just really like those two the best.

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

Most of my favorites are already mentioned, but I feel that 'Alpha Dog' deserves attention. Great film, and it actually happened nearly 12 years ago...

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

I just started watching the sopranos and must say it's fantastic though a series not a movie, it still gets a mention.

Re: Whats your all time favorite Mafia/Gangster movie?

i would have to say the godfather saga, have yet to see anyone on here mention something about donny brasco, that is another good movie. really anything with pacino in it makes it good, with maybe for the exception of "dog day afternoon" just due to the fact why they are robbing the bank lol if you all like mob movies be on the look out for a movie called "the iceman" it's about a guy named richard kuklinski a polish hitman for the mob. search in youtube his name and watch a few of his interviews, very cold blooded and not the least remorseful. he stated he was even in on the hoffa hit. he goes into more details in the book that was wrote about him. very interesting yet tormented man.
