Movie Theater What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

Valdez is Coming - gritty and real (except for Burt Lancaster as a Mexican)
Tombstone - everything about this movie is great
Joe Kidd - low budget but kind of wacky and fun
The Professionals - what a cast... and Claudia Cardinale in her prime, RRRRow!
Quigley Down Under - he had me at the 500 yard offhand bucket shot

Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

all these votes for Lonesome Dove forced me to pick it up. now, to allot 6+ hours in one sitting, or to break it up over a few nights is my predicament.

Next I would say is 3:10 to Yuma

.
If that were the case I'd have to say "Josey Wales"....but I sold my Unertl so guess that doesnt apply anymore.

Lonesome Dove. My wife cringes when I yell out "Lonesome Dove Day". I used to watch it all the time on rainy weekends.

This is what I'm talking 'bout!

Clint Eastwood will forever have a special place in my heart, fantastic actor, I'm only 22 but grew up watching all of his movies with my father. He will be one of the actor's that will be overlooked not too many years from now because people dont appreciate the work he has done and created.

Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

Duck You Sucker AKA A Fistful of Dynamite with James Corburn. Great movie.

I also like the Wyatt Earp movie with Kevin Cosner and Tombstone.

Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

As Western comedy I like the Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter. They pop up on TV once in a while.

Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

I've loved "A Man Called Horse" since I was a kid but, the older I get, the more I appreciate "The Searchers." At its core it's a "redemption" flick and I despise "redemption" movies -- they're so trite and formulaic -- but The Duke didn't do a lot of subtle, and Ethan Edwards has an oh-so-subtle and oh-so-sinister murderous streak that hangs over almost the entire movie.

A great western, once you get over Burt Lancaster as a blue-eyed Mexican.

El Segundo- "You know how many dead we got?"
Bob Valdez- "Eleven."
El Segundo- "You count, huh?"
Bob Valdez- "You better."

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance . Lee Marvin was GREAT in that. So were Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne, but Marvin stole it.

Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Western?

The Outlaw Josey Wales,

"the gold pa, the gold" the greedy bastards got the .44 lead ball,
"easy now like lasses in Janary" no more muffins for the other greedy bastard
