Maggie’s What's Your View II

His talons were testing the gloves. Pretty good strength but he wasnt positioned to sink a point.

Second one of these guys and two Redtails Ive sent off to the vet.

It always surprises me when I can actually grab one, envisioning the debacle of chasing the injured bird down the road.

Deer offer an easier solution.

We will be seeing dead turkeys in the breakdown lanes soon as well getting calls from peeps with crushed roof lines.

Those fucks are like a CH53 when in flight, one flap above stall speed.

Speaking of Creeper Vans, the latest addition in my ongoing search. Geno, this is across the street from the DeForest place. Notice the cracked open side wind to let out the stench of ...? ?

That’s a quality piece... ? the 2 gas cans are a nice touch. That truck stop sees all kinds. Seeing as what town it’s in I’d imagine the smell of weed and dirty hippy is what was seeping out of that thing

The darker side of me thinks it’s to vent the fumes of the rotting body parts in that cooler in the back ?. IDK ??‍♂️ Lack of plates is a nice touch too.

Cops would need reasonable probable cause to run the vin and just because they wanted to doesn’t hold up in court?
I’ll have to ask the Misses. Always figured the VIN was visible for a reason. The folks that leave the ol’ rusted out clunker along the side of the road and pull the plates when a main bearing is making metal think they’re donating a car to county (saving them a towing bill) are usually contacted shortly ?

This was my view today. My daughter and I came over to West Texas to do some hiking in Palo Duro Canyon. It was a frikkin perfect day for it.

Near the entrance of the park.

My daughter spotted a cave she wanted to go check out. It’s just right of center, in the cliff face.
7049493

Made it up to the cave. This shit ain’t easy for a 57 year old man, but I hung with her all day.
7049494

The view from the cave.

Just a panoramic that turned out pretty neat.

Our destination can finally be seen...the twin rock formations on the right. Lighthouse rock. I also took this pic because the creek formation reminded me of Butch Cassidy’s Hole in the Wall Gang.

More pics coming.

Made it! I thought. Nope, gotta go higher.

Made it this time! Nope, my daughter wants to climb the rocks you see behind her to get to the very top. I told her hell no. It’s 100’ straight down on both sides. One small slip and she’s dead. I be dead too, cause I’d throw myself off the cliff if she fell and was killed. So...in this pic, she’s mad at me for not letting her kill herself, I mean, climb to the very top.

Nice photos!

Thanks Bravo. I didn’t figure it was too bad for IPhone pics. We both left the house yeasterday and forgot to pick up the real camera.

Nice stuff Sgt Hulka.

May have to make a spring trip there someday. Love that wild beauty.

Thanks powdahound. It’s crazy over here. Is frikking flat forever, then this great big canyon appears out of nowhere.

You guys up north.

Last night next country over we had 4 inch hail that covered the ground like snow.

All is well now it melted, no one got killed this time.

Dangerous weather north south everywhere it seems.

Great pics. Jealous of your good experience.

Yes that final climb to the top of the Lighthouse looks a little soft under foot while requiring some climbing ability.......I like to make it to the last final bit of the trail but Id of probably used my judgement to not do it without some ropes or something based on those pictures.

Thanks for not including pics of you in yoga pants.

Thanks Threadcutter.
I agree. She’s a senior in high school and this is her spring break. She’ll go away to college next year, and I’m afraid this might be the last trip like this. So yeah, I’m really cherishing it.

That last bit is soft, and not flat, and the rocks to climb up are not the most stable either. I don’t have any doubt in her climbing ability, she been doing gymnastics for 10 years.
What’s scary is, she’s done that climb before. She came out a few years ago with some friends of hers. The adults however didn’t climb to the top, so they didn’t see her climb up there. Here’s a better pic of the last bit she wanted to climb.

It broke my heart to disappoint her, but not as broken as it would have been if she fell.

No problem on the yoga pants. I changed out of them for pics just for you guys. I knew you wouldn’t approve. ?

It amazes me how many people have never heard of the Palo Duro Canyon. I had a chance to visit when lived out that way
a "few" years ago.

Yes the climb doesnt look all that difficult in that perspective but any slip there seems to be no place to land. Looks like you slip right off that gravelly round top and its a quick ride to the bottom.

I hope the carvings in the stone are legacy.

Remember visiting Natural Bridge in VA and there were carvings in the rock but the dates were all really old some into the 1800s. Same at places in Nebraska along the Oregon Trail old settlers leaving their marks.

If your not fighting Indians on your way west or fighting British founding a country you dont really earn the right to carve your name in stone just for finishing the hike.

Took a second look at your great pictures.

Looking at that beautiful geology all I could think is....

Climate Change is real and we have nothing to do with it.

Next phase of the project has begun. Working on the trailer and the ride center. I think my father in law is starting to regret buying it? we pretty much go through every nut bolt and bearing.
7050156

How about that weld job... got a little carried away with the heat. I can’t believe undercutting like that passed inspection for all those years.
7050158
A little wear spot on a sweep dolly wheel pin. This is the kind of thing you find on a full teardown on another carnivals ride
7050159
how about a little burnt wiring. That’ll make for a good day? When you’re at a carnival, look at the lights. The more that are not working, the less they take care of the rest of the ride...
7050160
final little bit of bad news, the sound controller and other light chaser are both junk. Once again like about everyone else, just waiting on parts. If it would get just a little warmer I can start projects I can do outside to keep us going.

7050162
I did manage to get some annealing done this morning before heading into the shop.

I neck turned 100 rounds of cash’s brass when I got home. I’ll anneal those next. Here a little proof that we don’t shoot in pristine conditions, this is what happens when the wind blows a ton of dirt in your chamber and you cram a round in and shoot it anyway.

Today's word, boys and girls.
Eutrophication.
Can you say eutrophication?

This is what some eco Nazis call an ecological disaster boys and girls. People who actually have a science degree, and not a liberal arts degree, call this a wildlife refuge:

Sorry I didn't get pics of the deer last week. The turkeys are pissed at me cause I'm sitting around the bend and they want to go back in the lagoon.
