Having service issues and all I have is a cell phone right now. I reserve the right to edit and add better/more pics when I get home. So stay tuned. Taking almost 10 min a pic to upload and i am not sure cell phone pics do it justice. I have real camera photos for when i get home.

Same son told me the other day if the corn silks got any blacker, they'd climb down and run off with the watermelons. He's getting his fill now; worked about a half pickup load of corn today with plenty more to come.

You answered my question, and we'll leave it at that. You've taken enough grief from the audience.

Wow, 2A! I've always wanted to visit there. The USS Arizona memorial and The Mighty Mo must really be something to see. The oil slick from the Arizona serves as a reminder that we shall never forget. The only battleship I've been aboard is USS Alabama (BB-60), which is the last of the South Dakota class, the generation prior to the Iowa (BB-61) class that Missouri (BB-63) belongs to. She's sure impressive, but the Iowa class are the pinnacle. Enjoy your trip and make every minute count.

Thanks they are very impressive. I have a visit to another special place tomorrow. Also, yea running crazy, will a need a vacation from my vacation when i get home.

Standing in the center of greatness is part of the feeling. I dont normally get emotional..... But i did.

I was surprised/perplexed by the large number of Japanese tourists when I was there. Didn't know quite how to take it.

There are Asians everwhere for sure. I have met a bunch of Aussies also. Hawaii is the center of everything Pacific. I personally wouldn't be opposed to seeing Hiroshima or Nagasaki one day if you get my drift. I was here 3 years ago and was probably more bewildered by it then. I only came back for a specific reason which i will explain when i have more time. I would highly recommend coming once to any/everyone. But over all this island is kind of a crap hole.

Maui was a few years ago (shit more than a few, before 9-11) yea way better. More like you would expect. I am not a big city person but yes this is much more like what i would expect in Chicago

Beautiful. My middle son is stationed there. He is on the Michael Murphy and his house overlooks the Arizona. I can't wait to go out and visit him.

I was there 4 years ago and there were many Japanese or Asian visitors that were being quite loud. The workers told them to quite down and be respectful or they would have to leave. It is a very reverent place.

Like I told ya on the phone, I stood right where that plaque is in 83 with my right hand raised saying "give me 4 more years". ;) The Mighty Mo was still in mothballs in Bremerton. 5 yrs later I'm on the Midway outta Yokosuka floating around gonzo station in the Indian Ocean and who pulls up along side us? Yep, the Mighty Mo!!! Sailing with that ship while on the Midway for gods sake was the highlight of my career. When she lit off her 16's damn near everyone on the flight deck cried. Never see anything like it again. Later that night she lit off her CWIS's with tracers like rope looping through the sky. Fucking awesome. Thanks for the memories buddy.

Manning the rail coming into Pearl and sailing by the Arizona choked me up every time. I can't tell you how many times I've been by that spot and every time is like the first. It never becomes blase'.

Holy Crap 1J, what a sight that must have been! I can only imagine... You were very fortunate to get to see that.

Got goose bumps as we speak Brother. It was worth every 105-115 days on station in the IO for that few days we were together. That Ship cut water like nothing I've ever seen before. Majestic, absolutely Majestic !!!

Beautiful view mrbig! Looks as though your area has received ample rain as well.

Tucker - Yeah, but not many broken lines, which is why I struggled with my guess. Even straight stripers can have a few broken ones, and the hybrids I see usually have more broken ones than yours. In any case, they're going to be fun before long.

2A - They're not coming through on this end yet.

Tucker, Do you have a pond management co helping you? If so, do you feel it was worth the cost?

No. I've done my own research and made adjustments as indicated.

When we bought the place the pond looked it was filled with Yoohoo chocolate drink. You couldn't stick your hand in the water past your wrist and still see your fingers.
At first I thought the hybrid carp and catfish were keeping it muddied. There were 5 for each.

pH testing soon indicated that the red clay soil was highly acidic, and that condition makes charged particles of iron stay ionized and they're always repelling each other, keeping the water murky.
We treated the pond with concentrated liquid lime for almost instant improvement, and now I routinely pour pelleted limestone and salt into the place where rain run off water comes in through a pipe on the back corner.

I also spray a couple of times a year with Cutrine Plus and a mixture of black and blue dyes. The Cutrine plus controls algae blooms and the dyes keep the water shaded and cooler, which is good for the fish, grass control, and the geothermal heat pump. I also fertilize the pond in the early Spring.

I am having a contractor over soon to dig out the run off spot more, put in a liner, and put in rip rap going back up the feeder ditch. That should keep the run off waters cleaner and more aerated when we get heavier rains.

I'm also going to ask him about the possibility of setting a well casing or something similar in there for me to pour my limestone and salt into.
If you do your research, it's pretty amazing how much salt you can and should put in a 3 acre pond.

Long term, I'd like to double the size of the pond. If we went straight back off the existing dam about 100 yards, the natural elevations would give me a depth of close to 30 feet in the deepest part, which is behind the existing dam now. I'd leave some stumps and cut down trees in there for structure, as the original pond has damned little of that, other than what I added myself.

It's an on-going project and I work on these things as time and money allow.

This handsome young sailor turns 87 in a few hours.
He'll have his breakfast in a hospital room, thanks to some issues that arose today, but we are hopeful to have him out for dinner with family.
Will know more Thursday AM.

On a lighter note, overheard something worth sharing while in the ER with him today.
The nurse was interviewing the lady in the bay next to his.

Mam, it says here you have a DNR. Is that correct?
"Yes. It's correct, but I didn't want to use it today."

Tucker, from my heart, I hope Dad is gonna surprise everybody and get back to the program. I wish you all strength during this down turn. It's such a roller coaster ride for "everybody". Peace be with you and him. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and difficult moment in life. Sincere prayers headed in the right direction.

Good luck Tuck.
My Father went in recently and never made it out.
22 years of Parkinson's finally wore him down.

Black Hills in South Dakota, A little west of Custer and Hill City.

That wouldn't happen to be Custer Limestone road, would it?

Spent a very large amount of time in that area.
A late friend (Tom Macdill) and his wife, Ilona (Cameron) lived off of Mackinaw road. They raised Arabian horses out there.

Here's a pic of Tom.

Been a while, but I also hunted chucks across the road from the fort.
Can't remember that family's last name though.

The last picture may be very near Custer Limestone road. The dead tree and gold sky pics were north on Ditch Creek rd, and the pines were up near the Bear Mountain fire watch tower. I have a '68 Baja bug that I have trail permits for so I buzz all over off the main roads, but I did get into the trails on Custer Limestone. I like putzing around the Jasper burn and Bear Mountain areas looking for elk. Not much of anything moving yesterday, a few whitetails but they're everywhere.
