Maggie’s What's Your View II

The pond is down about a foot, but still doing well otherwise. The bigger fish are down deep and have been hitting slow swim baits and deep diving crankbaits.

Also did a little turtle management between casts.

Don't get much better than that!!! ;) You really got that 17/22/22 Mag? decked out.

It's a 22 LR. The Burris 5-25 is overkill, but my old eyes enjoy it. I added the light for nighttime critter management.
Shooting crawdad towers and rocks on the far side was fun too. Apologies to the crawdads.

lmao Poor Mud Bugs. I thought that was a Burris. I gotta tell ya Tucker, people talk some serious shit about the Burris XTR II's and I don't doubt their issues aren't issues. But I put that 5-25 on my 7MM Hide gun and finally was able to get behind it at distance (900 so far) and for the money I really like that damn thing. I like it so much I'm gonna get rid of my Zeiss HD5 5-25x50 Conquest Rapid Z1000 and pick up another XTR II. Just say'n. ;)

How does that Zeiss compare to the xtr in image quality?

In my 'view' I really like the Burris over the Zeiss HD5 all day long. And I'm a Zeiss guy. Bino's, Rangfinder, Scopes, and a few stickers. :p 34mm tube vs 1"? Win. Finer parallax? Win. FFP vs SF? Win. Mil vs MOA? Win. I really hate to say it but image clarity alone is the game changer. The rest? Hands down better scope. For me.

No matter how I many mag changes I will fumble (leaving PMags fulls of mud and sand) or knowing the high likelihood of leaving a trail of live shells behind me on a shotgun stage, a view like this is always the beginning of a great day.

I did have myself a busy and enjoyable Sunday Funday.

Got a coupling glued onto the overflow pipe and sawed her off damned near square to add 4 inches to full pool.

Do you like my jon boat trailer?

Then I noticed that I could see that steel plate from the shop door. Dry as Phyllis Diller's pussy, present day version.

Bangy, bangy, dinky dinky 31 MOA and that Burris is all sold out at two-fiddy.

BB, what's the name of that place? Can you see the USS Alabama across the water? It looks like a place I ate at down there, but I can't remember the name.

OFF is a good call. Illegitimi Non Carborundum.

We were at the Bluegill on the Causeway, a few miles east of the Battleship. The place you're thinking of may have been a casualty of Katrina.

Tucker,

Your place looks as dry as a popcorn fart. We can't go a single day without rain down here. I sure wish we could send you some. We can't cut hay because it won't quit raining. You seem to not be cutting grass because it won't grow. I've never seen a wetter, more useless summer (yet we were forecast to be in severe drought by now).

I think we've had 6/10ths in 7 or 8 weeks now, and that was 3/10ths 8 weeks ago and another 3/10ths about a week ago.
We started off with what was shaping up to be a great Summer, but it turned shitty quickly in July, which is typically one of our wettest months.

Thanks guys. Mama is till finding what Bug juice works best for her. Usually it's 100% Deet, but she couldn't find her bottle so she grabbed that stuff. I'm one of those weirdos who's basically immune to mosquitos, so I have no frame of reference for what works. Usually she's got her Deep Woods and a Thermacell going.

We had a great onshore breeze last night which kept the bugs at bay. Ended up sitting in the grass along the bayou hanging out with the band between sets and mama didn't get bit up. A fantastic night home.

Here's the plinking vid at regular speed. I forgot to mention why I have hay on my trailer and don't own a single animal.
My neighbor was hauling hay on his dinky little trailer Saturday and he overloaded it. The wheels rubbed the frame and it set the load on fire on the side of the road. I got recruited to help offload the hay and provide a trailer for transport and temp storage while he got his shit together. I also helped him offload his pickup full and we went back got another full load on my trailer, because I'm a good neighbor and so are they.

Good shooting Tuck.
Caught the trace on most of those shots.

Not only is that darn good shooting at 250 yards, that also a pretty decent camera at 250 yards too. Is that a 8" square you're shooting?
Nice job Tucker.

I enjoyed Tucker's video of his 10/22 at 250 yards (VERY nice shooting), so I thought I'd give it a try this morning. Set up a 2/3 IPSC at the head of a waterway and ranged it at 263 yards. Spent a few rounds trueing out Ballistic AE, repainted and shot this 10 shot group for record.

Conditions were 75 degrees, BP 30.23, and wind at my 7 o'clock at 3-4. Wolf ME was trueing at 1065 MV. Had 39.5 MOA on the gun, holding 0.5-0.75 MIL left (it's on older Leupy with MOA turrets and Mil Dot reticle).

My veiw...

Wanna impress. Do a headshot on the fly. :p Nice set up buddy. and btw, you gotta box heading your way this week. Finally. ;)

I wondered who would pick up on the fly in pic. Had he been there while shooting, I doubt that I would have been able to see him. That optic is a 3.5-10. Now, with the 260, he may have been in trouble ;).

LOL. I didn't kill her. They were doing that today for some reason. Resting? Cooling? Warming? I don't know.

I put a cheap Truglo laser on my little Ruger SR22 this afternoon. One of the big benefits of having a pond handy is that there are all kinds of soft reactive targets that help you see impacts and make adjustments accordingly. I was standing on the dock and shooting at stuff in the mud to zero the laser.
I noticed that minnows will follow a laser like a cat, which was fun for a bit.

Then that 12 inch steel plate on the other side struck my fancy.
Now the laser won't get there. Hell, it would hardly show up in the mud at 8 feet in the daylight.

Nonetheless, I took a rest on the picnic table and guesstimated a decent holdover.

Pop... DING! First shot, and not damned witness anywhere.

Hit it three more times out of the mag of ten.

Oh, and bluegills try to eat empty 22 casings too, but they spit 'em out pretty quick.

That's awesome and just fun as hell. I have a J.C. Higgins double action 9 shot "Ranger" Revolver (22) that I grew up with. It has always seemed to shoot high but I learned long long ago how to compensate for it and other personal issues. :p 200 yds and beyond is very doable. Cylinder is getting a tad loose so it's time to either retire it or have it fixed. I'm really not ready to say goodbye and thank you for your service.

You ought to see it in Seattle, can't see more than about 3 or 4 miles. I flew down to San Diego yesterday and the smoke was as far down as the California border. It's much worse than the last fire season a couple of years ago.
