The boss gave me the day off, so I piddled around the house and largely fucked off.
A friend stopped by with a nice surprise in the form of a bottle of The Macallan 12 and an even better surprise of bringing her daughter along with her.
They had some time, so we rode the trails, fed the fish, swung in the swing, and did all the cool things. The kid loved it and said she wanted to spend Christmas at my house.

I have less hair than depicted here.

Of course, it wouldn't be my birthday without me laying down some thoughtful sarcasm somewhere, so I burned another bridge in Nashville via social media, just for kicks.

Hope he enjoyed his Thanksgiving meal. I was just a tad low on him and wrecked the cat food bowl ?. An 80 gr Nosler doing 3400 FPS leaves an impressive debris field. Turkey buzzards and eagles will make a fine meal of him tomorrow.

I have to plan the kills around here and make sure the wind blows away from the house for a day or two wherever I drop them. Buzzards are efficient, but it takes a day or two.

Who's been here long enough to remember the story about "Daisy" from our old house in town? What damned mess that was. Shot the skunk in the gut so it would run off and die. Instead it ran under my utility shed and died.

Had one here a couple of years ago that I had to get up by hand and take to the woods.
It was 50-60 yards from the house and I figured a light field dove load would light its ass up and it would haul ass into the woods and never come back. Pull of the trigger it fell dead in its tracks, right behind the garage.
Who's killed dove at 50 yards with light field loads? Nobody. Skunk - dead instantly.

So, my family all gets together for Thanksgiving. My dad has 3 sisters, all their kids, grandkids, and more folks show up. We usually have a few folks people know who dont have kin around to celebrate with and we want to share our good times with those who could use it.

My cousin’s husband J is on the local volunteer fire department and we have our 50+ person get-together in the community center attached to the fire house.
Near time to be cleaning up, J gets a page. As he pulls the truck out he hears on the radio they are bringing the patient to the firehouse in someone’s truck.
I offered a hand until the paramedics arrived from 8 miles away since only a couple other volunteers showed up and he told me no one had much medical training.

Dude was cutting trees alone. 14” tree kicked up, knocked dude in the stomach/pelvis and pinned him for several hours till his buddy found him and drove him in to us. He was grey, cold, and I could get a very weak radial pulse off and on. HR 130 and O2 was around 80%.
Paramedic said she wished their volunteer firefighter who was a nurse was there to ride the 25 minutes in to the hospital as the dude was crazy sick. Cousins husband J asked if I would go.
Best BP I could get was 71/42. O2 stayed in low 80’s on 15l.
Closest hospital was a small one. They gave 2 units of blood right away for persistent hypotension with significant abdominal bruising (most likely serious internal bleeding), couple xrays and US of abdomen (couldnt see screen) and were calling for a chopper to fly him to the big city. Also had a hip and lower leg fx from my exam and at minimum a helluva concussion.

Thankful to get to use my skills and knowledge and help a fella out.
Then I went and had a couple whiskeys with my cousins at their house and got to visit with everyone a little more.

I cut up some trees alone after that last hurricane. If that had happened to me I would have died right there in my own woods. Need to think more about that stuff. Couple of those trees were tricky because of the way they fallen across others.

He got a pass last evening because of the wind blowing toward the house. Same wind this evening so I thought maybe the 243 would be instantaneous enough that he wouldn’t cut loose. I’m not a patient man. He was removed from the scene within minutes. Pretty rank at first, but I’ve had worse.

Yes good thing you were there. That "several hours before someone found him " was critical. Even TXA at that point if the EMS unit even had it would maybe have been too late to turn things around. At least you got him to a hospital with a chance. Good job Brother.

Canman, I tried several times to get a manual BP and couldn't until we were 6-7 minutes out on 25 min transport and the paramedic was giving report. Bumpy and windy back roads were challenging. Radial pulse dropped off for a while and was faint after about 400 ml of crystalloid in the bus.


Tucker, I think you probably saw my post in the Firewood thread about an IFAK or at minimum a tourniquet when chainsawing?

Add a viable means of communication to that. This fella had his cell up in his truck....

My other cousin who was there owns his own 4 crew arborist business and is damn good at it. His comment when we got back is that most folks have no idea and need to learn more and slow down when cutting.

@tnichols started his boy off well learning from his friend who is a pro!
