Primarily based on what I've learned here (thanks for the excellent site!) I put some money down on a SPS-V at a local shop. The previous owner installed an EGW mount which comes with it. He did something wrong when he got to the scope, since there are now sharp edges on a few rail edges. I'm betting the rings weren't tight enough, and they shifted under fire? Nothing a little file can't smooth... Anyhow, that's the base I planned on, the bolt and crown look like new, and it's saving me about $100 versus new.

What would you do with the EGW before mounting a scope? I'm mainly concerned with how he mounted it, due to what I see on the rails. Should I just check the screws for tightness? Or remove and replace properly (with or without bedding)? If he bedded it already and it seems solid, leave it alone?

I'd appreciate some perspective, since I'd like to know what I'm getting into before walking out the door with it, but of course they won't put heat on it or anything like that. Thanks for the help!

I think I'd have to take it off and inspect everything. I have found that there's frequently a reason people leave scope mounts on a rifle when they sell it.
