I hear that. Full time employed as a carpenter, been in the trade a long time. Never stopped working throughout this mess.
Yet, can't catch a fucking raise, and 80% of the crews around here can't get any help......
Electrician here.
We raised rates 30%, gave employees 20%, and had 12% insurance rates raise since last rate change. Company is still going backwards, but we're busy enough to deal with it. Our rates will probably need another 10% this year to deal with 6% on insurance and another 5% for employees or we'll start losing them to competition.
Every apprentice ever. 6 months in they're quitting because it's actually work, or they have to get a daily explanation of "I pay you for what you know, not what you do. Get a license and get journeyman pay. Put in some effort to learn!" Then they quit because they're only making 60% of scale that's now $40/hr + benefits on top.
