    Where ever they send me...
I am thinking of going to a ACOG. I have a EOTech 553 and 3X, nothing wrong with them I would just like to lighten up my AR. For those of you who have done this what are your findings? Also, which ACOG will do similar to my set up? What are the cons to a ACOG, I have "heard" about the tubes cracking, also the reticle going "bad" can these be warrantied/fixed?
    1) I would like a ACOG that had:
    2) BDC built in
    3) 3 power is not a must, but would be nice I don't plan on using it past 100-150 yards.
    4) Quick Disconnect
    5) That will co-witness with my rail mounted Troy sights I currently have. I have these but not in the Micro, I can't seem to find them on their site. Troy

The TA11 seems to be ideal. What about a ACCUPOINT TR24R or a TR24-3G with a Docter Optics? But then how would I mount the DO on the scope? I also like the NF 1-4x24 with a DO?

    Re: Which ACOG?

Acogs don't co witness even if they could you still couldn't because the eye relief is to short and they have to be mounted too far back. The up side is if you do something to bresk an Acog the guns probably screwed to.

You can still have a BUIS you will just have to remove the scope to use them.

Go with a 3.5 it has the best eyerelif the BAC realy works well with that scope and it meets your BDC criteria.

    Mounts
    Larue
    GDI( no first hand experiance)

    Re: Which ACOG?

i would recommend the ACOG TA31DOC if you can find them. they have discontinued and been replaced with the more expensive TA31RMR. actually either one would be great. it is 4X with a BDC for M855 ammo and has the small RDS mounted on the ACOG. i zero the RDS at 15 yards for use close up and use the ACOG for anything 25 yards or further. also you would want to get the larue QD mount and troy BUIS and then replace your FSB with a low profile gas block, i use the stag railed gas block for $35. this is what i like and set up my M4GERY's like this. YMMV.

    Re: Which ACOG?

I just went through this myself. Ended up ordering a TA11, mainly for the better eye relief. For me it was between the TA11 and the TA33. Ended up flipping a coin, they both have good reviews. TA33 is smaller lighter, and can take Butler Creek flip up caps. Made for a tough decision,,,

I've only looked thru a TAO1NSN, and I didn't like the eye relief on it. Had to have your eye to close to the scope IMO. If at all possible, try to look thru a few before you buy.

I don't know if the light tube can be fixed under warranty. I think they all end up cracking eventually. From interweb reports, it doesn't effect use.

The Tritium is going to dim over time, there's no way around it. You'll have to pay Trijicon to replace it, when the time comes. Warranty doesn't cover that.

    Re: Which ACOG?

For .223 I use ACOG TA11H, following advice from somebody with more experience. I did not regret it - the horseshoe reticle is OK for the quick acquisition short-distance, and also OK for longer range.

The only bad thing about the TA33 is the eye relief....

    Re: Which ACOG?

Get a TR24G. It will give u 1-4x, good eye relief and fov, same fo ill reticle. Lets you play up close and at distance. Can be found for $650. Had a TA11 donut and it was sweet at distance, but sucked up close. TA11 eye relief is way better than TA31. The TR24 gives you everything you need. If you will shoot past 300, you can dial as it has great elevation. Have one. Love it.

    Re: Which ACOG?

I have an Aimpoint Comp ML3 4moa and I love it. 50k hours battery life really sold me on that vs. a $100 or less cheap-o optic.

Have had it for 5 years now on my M4, with the same battery it came with and haven't had one issue.

    Re: Which ACOG?

You don't need it with a ta 11 thats the point of the BAC it lets you shoot it like a red dot or looking through it with magnification.

I thought you were talking about another gun.

    Re: Which ACOG?

    boone: great article.
Per the Trijicon website it states that the TA01, TA01NSN, and TA31 all have an eye relief of 1.5". I have found this to be pretty accurate. Trijicon shows the eye relief on the TA11 as 2.4". In my experience the I have found that the eye relief on the TA11 is closer to 3".

I was worried about the eye relief myself, but when I held it up I was sold immediately. Eye relief is great.

dmg308: agreed, after mounting it and sweeping with it, you are correct. I wrote that before actually spending some time with it.

    Thanks again fellas.

    Re: Which ACOG?

I have an ACOG TA01, TAO1NSN, TA31F and the TA31RCOM4. All are 4x. An ACOG will not co witness as the front sight will be out of your focal plane. I prefer the dual illumination models, of the 2 the TA 31F is my favorite. Eye relief though short has never been a problem.
