Which Anschutz 22 l/r should I be looking for?

Re: Which Anschutz 22 l/r should I be looking for?

For a PR Annie I would look hard at the MPR rifle. Of course to save some $$$$ I would also look at Savage's TR model 93 as it sits in a full size stock very reminiscent of a Mac A5.

Cheers,

I bought one of those old 1960-70 Savage Anschutz 141's.I PAID $425 a couple years ago.

It's the 64 style action and a repeater.Last week I shot 2 back to back .3 inch groups at 50Y with mine. They have that old quality feel to them.I'm sure it's made to higher standard than most centerfires these days.

I love my Anschutz 1807, I never shoot anything better.

Having said that, for training I believe my H&R 5200, (Winchester 52 clone)matches my long range Model 70 300 WM, I use the same sights and scope on both.

Re: Which Anschutz 22 l/r should I be looking for?

I have a 64 MPR and use it for position training. It will shoot incredibly tiny groups when I do my part, so I know when it doesn't it is MY fault. I use both iron sights and scope so I get practice with both. The stock is full size and has provisions for hand stop and flushcup style sling attach. It also comes with an excellent adjustable 2 stage trigger in the ounces.

I had a winny 52 prior to this rifle and this is the only one I found that could equal that fine old rifle. The only reason I went to this was because it is easy to go from iron to scope and back. So during training or comp. I could carry one less rifle, plus money invested in a complete second rifle for scoped etc. saved. In my opinion you can't go wrong with an Anschutz, never seen one that was a bad shooter.

I'd agree that the MPR would be one of the best choices in a new Annie. The 64 action has gotten a bad rep just because it is not as stout as the 54-however the only "worn out to the point of not working" 64's I've come across were club guns used by hundreds if not thousands of junior shooters. Any used Annie repeater you can find in your price range will probably be a great start. Very few people buy used Annies and are disappointed.

I just bought a 1517 (fired it for the first time today)... it is a 64 action in 17HMR... but it is a tack driver. The workmanship is great. It has a beavertail forend, which is nice. I shot 4 5-shot groups all sub-MOA.

I will post the first target for the long range rimfire comp today or tomorrow. I shot a 250-21X. Nice!
