Which bullet it won't shoot!!!

I can't get 208Amaxs to shoot in a Rem 300 Ultra Mag. The Throat is .200" farther than Mag seating depth, and I don't want to single feed.

What would you Experts recomend for a bullet to jump .200" an have better than 3/4" moa.

Looking at Hornady 225 BTHP Match, 215 Berger hybrid, 200 gr accubond, 220 Matchkings. PLEASE HELP! Thanks, Wayne

If you like the A-Maxes, get it set back a thread and rechambered to the dimension you want.

Seating depth isn't the only factor. Seat the bullets mag-length, and adjust powder type and charge.

THANKS, High Binder, I've tried that with the 208 Amax & can't get it to shoot. Any bullets that might shoot better jumping that far?

Is this a custom or factory rem barrel?

The Ultra mag case is too long. It should have been about 2.6 or shorter. Less powder but same velocity. Bullet would then be seated out with full powder capacity vs bullet seated in case to far taking up space. Also, factory chamber are long throated which is crazy because mag box lenght is to short. Look at the 338 Norma vs 338 Lapua.

BCP, It's a Factory Sendero, 35Rds now, with H1000. I'm going to try Retumbo but I don't think these Amaxs like that much jump.

I had a Remington stock Varmit that shot the SMK 190's excelent (10-shots @ 3/4" @ 200 yds) but they were jumping .240 with them loaded out as far as I felt comfortable with.

I had the barrel set back but never did get as good accuracy. I think some of the heavier bullets really like to jump.

Try it and see what it likes, you might be suprised.

I shoot 208's in a 300 WM, and honestly have not been able to get them NOT to shoot and I have varied the seating depth a lot....I use retumbo though, so you might have some luck there.

ABtowncat, I've also had great luck with the 208s in other guns but all are .020" off the lands not .200" jump?

1lnbrdg, thats intresting, .240" is a long jump, I've ordered some 220SMKs to try along with Retumbo.

I've found the 208's to like jump, I just had to find the right powder and charge and now getting great results from a .300WM barrel that's seen better days.

Jagged77, Just courious how far you've jumped them with good accuracy(better than 3/4").
I shoot them in my 5r 300WM consistantly with 1/2" groups, that's .020" off the lands.
The best I've gotten on this RUM is 3/4 to 1".

Just an up date on this rifle I pulled this think apart,dropped the trigger to 2 pds, skim bedded the action with Devcon, added a Watts Mag Extension, & went back to load development. It now shoots consistant 1/2" groups or better, with 91.5 of H-1000 & 208 Amax,.040 off the lands at 2985fps at 1400 Elevation.

I took this thing out to 12-1400 yards on steel before Elk season with excellent results.

I took it Elk hunting twice last fall & killed one at 643 in Wyoming & one at 335 yards in Arizona, both one shot kills. Both shot through the lungs, neither elk made it 30 yards before droping.

Congratulations.

Shows us all to start with basics. Bedding, floating and trigger pull (poundages and smooth).

I love the 208 A-Max. I always single feed that rifle though and it's not a hunter though I guess it could.

you can also try the Berger VLD bullets...they like a bit of jump

love the 200 accubonds in the 300rum.. they are hammrs!!! cant wait to see what nosler has done with the new long range version!!!
