I'm getting a little overwhelmed looking at the options on Redding dies. I'm having a 243 AI built by lawton and I'm getting tied up with all the options. If it were anything but an Ackley, I'd just buy FL die set and be done with it. I'll be shooting tactical shoots with it and accuracy is a big concern.

Do i need to order the 2 die FL set, the neck die set, the type S match 3 die set ??? This is where i've been getting confused ... sinclair

HELP

Which die do you use more often, FL or NK sizer. Any problems with closing the bolt when using the NK die? It seems to me that if the NK die is what you use, why have the FL die??

Re: Which dies for 243 AI ??

I'll suggest the Type-S Match Bushing Neck Die Set. It has the Type-S bushing neck sizing die, a body die, and the micrometer seater. Redding part# 38420.

The comparable FL Match Bushing Full Die Set, consisting of the Type-S bushing FL sizing die and micrometer seater, is an option. Part# 36420.

As long as you are using a bolt gun a neck die set is all you should ever need. I believe that you can bump the shoulder back with the bushing die set if ever needed. Thanks for the amax's - they are the same lot as the ones I have.

Ask Lawton if they can make your dies for you using the same reamer they used on your rifle. They should be able to use the barrel stub to create a headspace and seating depth gage, and Newlon makes great blank dies like the Redding S die. You might also call Redding or Sinclair, they are both very helpful. I believe Redding has competition sets for both the .243 Ackley and .243 improved. This is a great cartridge, I have a switch barrel with a 1:8 twist for deer, (95 NBT is fantastic) and a 1:12 twist for hogs, (anything in th 70-85 grain range) Enjoy it.

Re: Which dies for 243 AI ??

I have the Redding Type S Match Bushing 2-Die set for .243AI and they work great accept I really don't want to do a full length re-size on the brass after I shoot. This both works the case more and is considered less accurate.

Personally I recommend the 3 die set from Redding so that you only have to neck size during reloading, but you will have the body die available should your bolt start sticking a little and the case needs to be re-sized. I have this for my .308 and it makes reloading much easier. That is why I'm going to sell my current dies and buy the the 3 die set.
