Got a form 4 in the process for a SS Sparrow. Looking to get a new trainer. Looking to shoot out to 200-250 yards. Here's the 2 I'm looking at:

Mark II FV-SR -
16.5" bbl. I will probably change the stock to the Boyd's Tacti-cool. So in a nutshell, it would be the same as the one below with a shorter bbl.

Mark II TRR-SR -
22" bbl. Useless rails on the side of the stock.

how much velocity will I gain with the extra 5.5" on the TRR-SR?

Re: which of these to Savage MKII's

Theoretically AFAIK, 22 LR reaches its maximum velocity in a 16" barrel. So you won't lose any velocity. You might prefer the shorter barrel for easier handling with the can as well. I don't know...

-another person with a Form 4 on a Sparrow...waiting, waiting.

Re: which of these to Savage MKII's

^^^^^what he said concerning barrel length.

will probably come down to price

fvsr + boyds stock = $? vs. trrsr $

shorteer barrel IMO would be nicer with the sparrow on it, just think how long the 22" would be with the addition of the can.

if handling isn't an issue, then again, price is the deciding factor.

there is a use for those rails though - mounting a light for backyard pests that only seem to come out at night. other than that they are quite useless.

tweaked? What are you having done?

Re: which of these to Savage MKII's

fv-sr plus boyds stock and metal should come to be about the same price.

both guns are sold out at every gun shop within 60 miles of me, i'm really trying to get a fv-sr

Re: which of these to Savage MKII's

FYI, the side rails on the TRR-SR are just a big funky one-piece scope base -- you can replace it with a $40 EGW 20 MOA base or something and end up with a very nice (and normal looking) trainer.

On a completely unrelated note, anybody want to buy a hideous tri-rail scope base for a Savage mkii?

actually yes i would be interested. pm sent.

Re: which of these to Savage MKII's

The MKII TRR-SR from Bud's Gun Shop is $470. The MKII FV-SR is $275 + floorplate and trigger guard ($30) + Boyds Tacti-Cool ($109 after shipping) = $414

I think I'll go for cheaper/shorter/handier.

Re: which of these to Savage MKII's

Good shooting.

I thought about the short barrel, didn't care for it, no benefit, just looks. BTW - Also having a new thread protector made so it'll blend into the bbl.

You should check into the snipercentral.com - rimfire section, there is someone intending to make a stock pouch to hold 2-3 22LR 5/10rd mags.
