I got in my Number 5 Optivisor in which is 2.5x at 8" and it seems like I have to get my face too ose to the lathe when I'm trying to pick up threads or doing fine crowning work. I was thinking of sending it back and getting the No. 3 which is 1 3/4d at 14". Less zoom but you don't have to get as close. What do you guys think?

Re: which Optivisor do you use?

I am 47(need reading glasses) and use the headband style for bedding, checkering, etc. Most of the time, however, I just use my reading glasses. I run a #3, also.

I just read on the visor that it is not to be used in lieu of a face shield or protective glasses. Not trying to harp on you, just hate to see a good man lose one of his peepers.

Be careful.

#3 plate w/loupe over Trivex lens glasses. Not to run rotating machinery but for hi-res work and the swing-out loupe is quick to hand. Over fifty and don't need bifocals yet, go figure. Slow as hell to focus though.

#3 here too, with a flip down 10X add-on for the really little stuff. Wearing glasses to see ANYTHING full time sucks. I have to wear full lens size 4 power glasses to tig weld these days too.
