I'm going to buy a red dot sight to put on my SPR AR-15 to shoot CQB matches. I want the Trijicon Reflex or Eotech but really don't want to spend $400-$500. Which models do you all like for around $200?

Re: Which red dot is best?

The Vortex Strikefire got good reviews for the low $100 range, but I'm excited to try out the SPARC when it's available in the next couple of months. For a roughly $250 street price it looks like it will close to the Aimpoints that are twice it's price. I also think it has a doubler with it too.

www.vortextactical.com has details.

Re: Which red dot is best?

I'm partial to aimpoint. Never had a bad one. Bought a bunch used.

Look for a used aimpoint.

Once Midway was blowing out CompC's for 200bucks. Nearly identical to an ML2 but with less water protection if I remember correctly.

Re: Which red dot is best?

I just a couple of weeks ago went through this, I bought a Eotech XPS2-2 and was disappointed with the reticle, I was so disappointed in it I didnt waste my time sighting it in. The follwing week I bought a Aimpoint. The Aimpoint is much higher quality than the Eotech. On paper the Eotech seemed like a better solution with a 1moa dot and 65moa circle but I found that the 2moa dot of the Aimpoint is actually better for me.

Supposedly trijicon makes a mod plate so that it works with any j-point mount. RMR is pretty expensive. I'd probably just buy the Aimpoint Micro T1 instead. Currently for mini-reflex sights I've been using the Burris fastfire 2 and it's been working great.

Re: Which red dot is best?

I have a aimpoint and a eotec, can't really say I have a favorite of the two, both are good. Eotec went to Iraq with me and I beat it up and it was fine. My brother brought homean Aimpoint that looks like he played soccer with it and it still works great

Re: Which red dot is best?

another vote for an older aimpoint or eotech. They are great and take a lot of abuse! personally i like my eotech better than my dads... It just seems like the reticle is literally inside of your vision. The aimpoint i notice too much of the "body" of the sight.

Re: Which red dot is best?

Aimpoint all the way! I'v had a few Eotechs but got rif of them, they wash out in bright light to easy for me. I'd rather search for the target, not my retical. Aimpoint is always there, and the batt. last for years.

If money is really tight, (and you can't find a used Aimpoint), IOR makes a pretty nice looking reddot for cheap money. I think Scott sells them for around $150. They have wind. & elev. knob's and look pretty nice, however I have never used one or even read a write up on one so I can't say for sure. The only thing I don't like about them is the size of the dot, 5 moa.

Another for Aimpoint, Porb T1. Or more budget, maybe a burris fastfire in an LT Irondot mount, or TVNC RDP, pretty inexpensive. BUT, i am also a fan of the Buy once Cry once mentality. SO get the aimpoint!

Re: Which red dot is best?

I had an Eotech 512, used it for a year or so, didn't care for it, sold it and found a great deal on a used Aimpoint M2. I really like my Aimpoint better, it's simple, fast, extremely durable, has LONGGGG battery life, and depending on your mount you can save a few ounces on your rig.

Love my Aimpoint too, I have been running an H-1 micro for about a year and a half with no complaints at all and of course the batteries last for 4-5 years.

Re: Which red dot is best?

Ultra-Dot Match Dot is not to be overlooked. Real-Lifetime Waranty, 2,4,6,8 "true"moa adjustments w/11 intensity settings for each, positive and repeatable clicks, proven track record for dependablity in rifle and pistol competition(see Team Ultra-Dot), and a nice 200.00 price tag.
I have a couple of these available also a more simple version with a single 4 moa dot w 11 intensity settings for about half the price.
We shoot clays at 100 yds fairly consistantly with these mounted on Ruger MarkII Targets. The dot size and intensity settings are truly awesome. Feel free to PM me for more information. Just another option for you to consider.

Re: Which red dot is best?

I prefer the reticle and window of the EO, and everything else about the Aimpoint. There is nobody else in the game as far as I'm concerned, and if you spend your money on something else you're throwing it away and will end up with an Aimpoint or EO anyway.

SPDSNYPR, Do you have or have you personally used the Ultra-Dot? Just curious because I have all three of the items in discussion. Depending on the task at hand, I may choose one over the other. I felt your analysis was a little biased. Not bashing Aimpoint, I'm quite fond of them. However, last year we are having fun at the farm and my aimpoint breaks into two parts from force incurred entirely from recoil alone. They have great customer service and it was repaired without incident of course. I've never had that happen with any of my Ultra-Dots, does that make them "The Best", I'd think not, but that does keep them out of the "throw-away" pile! Yep!
