Amaretto? The almond stuff? That has been good a few times, and with baking too.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

I've been a JD fan for, well, ever. My new favorite is Basil Hayden.

There's a snippet on the bottle, "best with a splash of branch water." Holy Smokes! Deer Camp - best buds in the world - splash of branch water - night time Virginia woods in October... best flavor I've ever experienced.

Acknowledged - could have been the perfect setting.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

Knob Creek was my go-to for a long while, but I've recently discovered Bulleit Rye, and it shames Knob Creek. Much smoother, full flavor, oily in the mouth. Just a great whiskey.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

I really appreciate the help here fellas.

I'm going to look into these, for sure if not for my buddy I'll definitely try to run them through my cupboard.

Pappy's is great no doubt, but that $ is a bit more than I want to roll for this.

I'm going to look up Templeton, Woodford and Pendlton. Simply because some JD guys mentioned this was a good way to go. Not scientific by any means... good news is I've got a bunch of new bottles to try.

Thanks!

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

A few more great possibilites were mentioned.
Woodford Reserve, Bulleit & Old Grand Dad (bonded) are more full bodied bourbons that I really like. Can't go wrong there! One more option that won't break the bank is, Rebel Yell.

George Dickel makes a sour mash that he might be enjoy, Dickel #12.

Booker's is FULL throttle 127 proof of badazz in a glass!

Finally, Ezra Brooks makes a charcoal filtered whisky that is very similar to JD in that regard.

I worked at a funky smokehouse that specialized in bourbons and we carried no less than 28 different styles. It was a great experience learning about (drinking) them. And the beauty of American whiskeys, is that you don't have to sell a kidney to enjoy a fine spirit!

Good luck & don't forget to try one or seven for yourself...

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

Pendelton and Fourty Creek have been my on my top list for the past few months.

8 Seconds is suppose to be a great whiskey but they will not sell it in Oklahoma so I have not been able to try it.

Not jack, but i really enjoy a 12yr old jameson on the rocks.

Fill a glass with ice fill with good hooch, when the ice is gone so are you.

Pour it through something like a Brita filter a couple times and it would be drinkable.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

Pritchards Double Barrel Kentucy Straight Bourbon Whiskey, great aroma and smooth after taste, wonderful on the palate. $58 per bottle. I have a wide variety in my collection and this is # 1, even beats the more expensive bottles.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

Try to get your hands on a bottle of Whistlepig. its a 100% rye and oh so tasty.
as a side note, its from a company that was started by that guy Raj who was on The Apprentice years ago. I went to a tasting of it where he spoke. Interesting guy and philosophy behind the product.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

As a guy who drinks gentleman jack every night of the week. Get the guy some Jack Daniels single barrel. Every one is different but they all have that same JD flavor. Its what people get me when they want something or are saying thank you.

Re: Whiskey? What would you recommend.

How about some Stranahans? I am not sure of the distribution in your neck of the woods as they had to pull back some when they couldn't keep the local lq stores stocked.

IMO, disaronno is the most disgusting crap ever cant even stand the smell of it, the wife loves it though and it gets her good and ready for some fun real quick
