Hey, I'm new on this site, so I figured I'd let everyone know that. I'm kind of interested in writing a post-apocalyptic story, and I'm thinking that the main character should have some sort of Whisper cartridge rifle as his primary weapon. I was thinking about making that weapon an FN SCAR platform chambered in .375 whisper, loaded with really heavy bullets for high BC and high power at subsonic velocities. For the sake of being technically accurate, I was just wondering if anyone could let me know how much a rig like this would weigh, with a suppressor, optics, 12 fully loaded magazines, and maybe another 200 rounds not in magazines. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Re: Whisper cartridge

That's a crazy basic load, to begin with. Is he just sitting in a tower dishing it out? Because otherwise that's a lot of ammo to lug around, kind of 2003-ish PMC style if you ask me. High BC doesn't matter a whole lot with subsonic loads either.

Re: Whisper cartridge

Let's say the rounds are 400 grains. 7000gr per lb / 400gr = 17.5 rounds per pound. I dont know if a SCAR-H would work with the .375 Whisper but let's say it fits in the 20 round mags. (12*20)+200 = 440 rounds. 440/17.5=25lbs

Gun is probably about 12 pounds but someone can correct me on that.

Re: Whisper cartridge

All of the weapons will be confiscated and destroyed before the apocalypse. We will be relinquished to defending our lives using sporks, surviving off of stockpiled spam. Sounds more plausible. No offense bud.

Re: Whisper cartridge

Thanks for the replies, fellas. Dogtown, I realize that its a crazy load he would have going there, but it's a story, after all, so I'm going to take the liberty of having a little creative license. And this wouldn't be a weapon that he would be using every day, just as a good way to engage lesser-equipped bandits, etc. He would have at least one other secondary weapon in a standard, easily available caliber for hunting and and backup. Joe, thanks for the data. I was figuring that the loads he would be using would be some custom-made 400 grainers, with maybe a few other supersonic loads on backup, just in case. Snyper762, you're probably right, but for the sake of fiction, we'll get a little creative. This character will also be carrying a bow, as well, so that covers the event that maybe, later on in the story, this characters weapon becomes lost, damaged, or runs out of ammo. Wink, wink.
