Both parties did a lot wrong here. The driver was wrong in pushing to see the tail light at that moment. He can look all he wants when done. He then clearly pulls away from the officer and resists. Then the shit show starts going downhill from there.

-Stay in the car, put both hands on the wheel in plain sight HOLDING THE PAPERWORK HE'S GOING TO WANT. If its at night snap on the dome light so he can see the inside of the car (keep the front clear so he doenst need to worry about a pistol under the newspaper or shirt.

-Be polite and respectful.

-If you carry , "Officer, I have a CCW, the weapon is in the glove box, here's my permit, would it make yuo more comfortable if I exited the vehicle?"

Here in AZ, you can conceal carry without a permit.... and roughly 50% of the cars on the road have a weapon on board. The LEOs are very used to the idea that there is better than a 50/50 chance the person they pull over is armed. At least most of them have a sense of humor about it.

I was stopped by the CO St Police for no taillights at night. He was blading as he approached and I showed my empty hands and said, "No gun!' From my side mirror I could see his shoulders drop and a big smile spread across his face. He told me that my taillights were out and asked if I knew. I didn't. He invited me to step out of the car to see for myself and by golly, they were out. Fuse had blown. He asked me to get it fixed tomorrow and I bought a box of fuses and fixed it the next day AND wrote him a thank you letter.

Of course getting stopped for having a tail light out is just the officers pretext, or probable cause to stop, if you thinks you're doing something else like driving while intoxicated. Every time I've ever gotten pulled over for having a tail light out, it's been like 1:30 a.m. or 2:30 a.m. I've never been pulled over at a normal hour for having a tail light out. The officer just wants to stop you legitimately and then check and see what you're doing. So as soon as you says I stopped you for having a tail light out, thank him profusely, say I didn't know and immediately engage him in a pleasant and somewhat sophisticated conversation so he can see that I've not been drinking. Usually all tell him what I am doing out at 2:30 in the morning, having an early flight to the airport or whatever, and tell him I wish he could pull over everybody at 2:30 in the morning cuz half the people I see out here are drunk too. Then everybody nods and goes away. With a warning. Or no warning. Citizens need to let the police the police have the pretext to stop and check you for some more important crime without getting up in their s***.

Those 90’s gm bulb sockets were the fucking worst. I was constantly having “bulbs out”. But i am smarter than to not believe the officer, i would say something like “again?!? I literally fixed that last night after work” and maybe follow it up with “hey, you wanna buy a car? Taillights work sometimes….” Which usually diffuses a situation.

In Texas they know that the Registered owner has a ltc / ccw before they get out of thier car.

Funny, the last time I was stopped (and I RARELY get stopped) I did exactly this. The cop approached like he expected me to come out blazing. He actually said I looked nervous, because I had my hands on the wheel with my documents ready.

The illegal president appointed an unconstitutional supreme court judge among others judges already spread through the federal court system. Other elections were fraudulent as well.
