I run one on an S&W 45, using the rear sight on the DPP. Works great, primarily for night vision use, I’m quite happy with it.
I’ve put about 500 rounds through one in a class last year. So very limited experience with one. My normal setup is a G19 with an RMR type 2 with the 3.5 MOA dot. The DDP seemed faster do to the larger untinted window. Also didn’t hurt that it was mounted on a Staccato XC, but out of the holster and on transitions I felt like I was slightly quicker to get my first round off. Over all liked it but doesn’t necessarily make me want to ditch the RMR or Holosun.
If you're really focused on the target and not on the dot, the speed difference will be minimal unless your index is way off even during transitions.
Put a piece of tape over the front of the lens and do some dry fire draws and transitions. You'll immediately see if you're really focusing on the target with both eyes or if you just think you are.
The Delta Point Pro used to be the most popular optic in USPSA Carry Optics about 3- 4 years ago. Based on that alone, I doubt any reputable pistol shop will have any trouble milling for it but that also depends on the pistol itself.
The Trijicon SRO and SIG Romeo3Max have taken over as the most popular optics in USPSA. The SIG due to its massive window and the SRO due to its RMR-like durability and huge window.
This is second hand knowledge but from reading enough threads on the brian enos forum it seems the DPP used to have a significant failure rate but it also seems Leupold has the issues under control now.
If you have one, I don't see the harm in mounting it. BTW what kind of pistol is this? Hopefully one which you can have milled for adapter plates, or where you can easily buy a second slide for, in case you decide to move away from the DPP.
It’s a g34. Right now I have the dpp on a s&w m&p ar22 and it’s awesome on there. Used it to shoot quite a few steel matches and I personally think it’s very fast for that. Really want to try a dot on my pistol so that’s the reason for this thread. Really want to know if it’s worth milling the slide for the dpp? Don’t want to if it’s the wrong choice. I actually have so many rounds on this g34 that I’m on it’s second barrel. Been using it for uspsa, steel, 3 gun and ruck matches. Have Dawson sights on it but starting to feel like an outcast at matches now with iron sights.

Then you can use your DPP and not be permanently locked into that footprint on that gun. If you later want to put a different optic on the pistol, it's as simple as buying the correct adapter plate from Agency.
It will be low enough. Put your time into rewiring your draw and index out of the holster and not into worrying about stuff that doesn't really matter.
Half of my pistols have plate systems (CZ OEM) the other half were milled, the height difference is negligible and irrelevant after a couple of hours of dry fire.
I have about 12K rounds through RDS pistols and probably 4 - 5X that many reps in dry fire over the last 12 months. That's not as much as the serious dudes but enough to have a clue about what's important and what's not.
Like I said, in my experience the difference in height over bore between direct milling and most plate systems is irrelevant with a tiny bit of work.
BTW, I prefer the rear sight in front of the optic.
Curious as to how many rounds you got through it.
I have almost 11K through an RMR and a little over 4K through an SRO.
Running a few, One on a 10mm Springfield XDM OSP using the springfield plate, one on a shadow systems M920 using their suppkied adapter and one on a Sig 229 using the sight dovetail adapter.
Pros: Clear and easy to use much faster than a RMR, shake awake works
Cons: Taller than other MRDS so you need taller back up sights, had no issue getting them from Dawson Precision.
Have 2k rounds through the 229 in .40, 500 rounds through the M920 and 100 through the XDM.

Have you considered buying another slide that is already milled for RDS versus milling the OEM slide. Lots of those pre-milled slides available now.
If this pistol is for sport use only, don't bother with higher sights.
Do not listen to those who say you need them to make it easier to find the dot. Using BUIS to try to find the dot is slow as fuck.
Spend a couple of days doing dedicated dry fire to refine your index and the dot will appear in front of your face. Also keep your head erect and get rid of the gawdawful stupid tactical-turtle-head-hunched-down-between-the-shoulders posture if you use it now.

I have an RMR on the gun that no shit I need it to work no matter what.
On others I have other sights that are better suited for the use

That is why the only MRD worth buying for a pistol is a RMR, preferably a type 2. ACRO too but its not really a MRD per say.
Everything else is airsoft toys.
I'm pretty sure the SRO's electronics are mounted the same way as they are in the RMR.
And while its lens may crack easier than the RMR's if dropped the right way, I have no doubt the dot will still project.
Anyway, I'm at 4,561 rounds of 9mm through an SRO and it shows no sign of quitting. I'll let you know if it breaks.
Most serious USPSA shooters will go through 10 - 30K rounds a year at least before the current shitshow. If something's gonna break from riding on the slide, we'll find out first.

I'm running a Holosun HS507C-X2 on an AR pistol and REALLY love it! The auto-on/off is nice. Saves battery while in storage, and supposed to last 50K or 100K hours. Sure beats my old EOTech 512 that dies in a few weeks if you accidentally leave it on. I still love the old EOTech, just not quiet as much as I do that auto on/off, and shake-to-wake features of the Holosun.
Yeah, I've added a few upgrades since the pics...That was just the evening I bought it. That factory grip was shit...Best thing I did was replace it with an ERGO, like I run on all my AR's. I'm really starting to dig the 45º safety lever... Never had one of those before. The factory trigger wasn't bad at all for a mil-spec. But it got pulled for a Rise 434 with some KNS pins, as soon as the package came in the mail (which can be seen in the 2nd pic).

I have shot carry optics for quite some time, and used them in a different life for different purposes.
The DPP is a solid sight, but a bit hit and miss when it comes to issues. One local guy has been through several on a CZ. Leupold made it right but it is a bit to a PITA.

First, Sig p320 X-VTAC with lots of modifications but came from factory with slide milled; installed the Leupold DPP 2.5 MOA. Holster fitment is always an issue with optic mounted pistols +/- weapon light. I use a drop leg rig QLS Level 1 Safariland GLS (no optic protection), and both Level 3 thermolaminate and injection molded (most modern Safari7 laminate, stronger, thinner, closest fitting, non-marring) styles. I have 5600 rounds thru this assembly. Use a tripod mount for zeroing all pistol mounted with optics.

This is a M&P2.0 Performance Center with Leupold DPP 2.5 MOA; slide was milled at factory; the Leupold adapter plates are thicker than a C&H adapter plate (an entire hot headed thread on C&H plates, I had a good experience, others not so apparently). Also used the Leupold adjustable rear sight on both pistols) and Dawson suppressor tall sights (again Safariland holsters accommodate the taller front sights, not all holsters do). Also use torx fasteners not hex heads to secure optic to adapter / slide. I have 2k rounds thru this assembly.

Me too. One of my favorites is Bill Rogers setup; I have 11.5K rounds thru this setup.
A number of advantages to the rear sight in front of the optic:
First, it deflects debris and burnt power residue from hitting or coating the optic
During one-handed clearing exercises, you are putting pressure against the iron sight and not your expensive optic
With the optic at the back it allows a clearer, larger field of view.
The red dot and rear iron sight act as a single unit instead of two separate ones that the eyes have to align
I can buy brand new DPP's for under $200 all day long. Got a few buddies who work at Leupold. I shoot with them all the time and see the issues first hand. That company is run by idiots and half the engineers aren't even gun people, and it shows in every product they release.
The DPP is a great optic if you never actually shoot. It looks cool aiming at your TV and clearing the foryer of your mcmanision.
And I still spend $450-500 on each RMR.

Nobody who is competent with an RDS on a pistol even cares about that.
As far as my eyes are concerned, the irons (on the pistols where I have BUIS) don't even exist when the dot is on. I don't look at them. I don't see them. I don't need them to find the dot.
I’m sure this question will get some angry responses so please understand it’s just for the range. On simply a competition pistol! not even close to my defend my life pistols what’s the thought on no irons at all?
That agency arms AOS looks pretty bad ass. Did you have yours done by them? What was the lead time like and how good where they about actually sticking close to it?
And I want the SRO to be as durable as the RMR.... and I wish it wasnt so goddamn ugly
Irons are not necessary on a pistol that is strictly a competition gun, IMHO. To answer the OP’s original question, I have a DPP on a milled slide pistol and have been completely satisfied. Granted this is a sample size of one but they don’t all break down. Since you already own the DPP, what do you have to lose.
I don't have any Glocks. But from everything I've read from users and from what I can see of the AOS system, it's the only choice.
I have four RDS-equipped pistols, all CZs: P-10F, P-10C, P-09, and a P-07. Both P-10s were the Optic Ready models, and from this engineer's perspective CZ's OEM plate system is superior to almost anything out there including direct milling for several reasons.
If I had a Glock that needed to be milled, I would have the AOS system put on it and would not consider anything else.
They're not necessary on a competition pistol at all.
I'm also not entirely convinced back up sights are needed on a self defense pistols.
I can make effective hits on target with the dot off, just using the optic's frame and my index as a reference, at any distance that I feel comfortable defending in court.
Others may disagree, but I don't care.
I’m about to send another DPP back because it’s failed. The spring connector under the battery is a crap design. It’s held in by a rubber/plastic film. It’s not a matter of if it will fail but when with this design. Supposedly Leupold has fixed the issue but who knows. Guess I’ll find out when I get mine back. It won’t be going back on my gun if it’s the same garbage connector though.
My RMR has been constantly on in auto-brightness mode since October of last year. Between January and October of last year that RMR was only used for matches and practice so I turned it off when not in use.
It's still on its original battery.
I like my DPP.. Slide milling done by LoneWolf in Northern Idaho. Turnaround was short and they installed the suppressor sights for me as well.
I know the FDE doesn't match the rest of the pistol, but I got a seriously amazing deal on it from my last employer (Cabelas) so I couldn't pass it up. If anyone wants to trade straight up for a black one, I'm down.

Looking to buy a DPP and trying to find a place to mill it or try the dove tail mount to see how I like using a RDS on a pistol then mill it
Will only be used for hogs while bow hunting. Tired of those stupid things running off with my FMJ arrows and broad heads!
One of our guys tried to run one on a Sig of some flavor that was cut for their Romeo optics (supposedly the same cut). He kept having issues with it coming loose though so he got his Glock milled for an RMR.
I don't know what was causing it, but I'd be careful trying to fit the DPP on a stock Romeo-cut Sig.

. 20 weeks! Dam that’s sucks as that was the direction I was leaning. I really like the work fabricated arms does also but it would be a dedicated cut not the plate style like agency. His 45 degree chamfer and the front slide serrations look slick
@Simonsza1 yep 20 weeks for the DLC coat. Maybe a little less for a cerakote. Good things are worth the wait but yea, 20 weeks sucks?
Stop using fmj's and shitty heads. Get some heavy 2 blade single bevel heads made out of real steel, make them razors and then cut the pigs spines in half. They go nowhere. Resharpen, repeat. I was blown away at the difference in penetration and damage when I made the switch. Just got back from bama and every hog or deer I stuck died in sight. Four deer, two hogs. On one (84 lbs) the spine was completely cut in half, got one lung and then blew out a rib on the way out. Arrow didn't fully exit because there wasn't room but it was stuck in the dirt too. Happy to come show you
Ive only had the DPP on my pistol for a couple weeks and haven't shot it enough to really give an educated opinion on durability yet. It has held zero for the couple hundred rounds I have through it and the nice clear window is ample sized for dot recognition, even with a quick fairly shitty presentation. My main bitch so far would have to be the single button for dot adjustment. Cycling through kinda sucks. I have heard they eat batteries, but haven't had it long enough to know how bad.
