Found this scat on the river trail behind my house this morning.

There's been cats (Cougar/Mountain Lion) spotted in the area recently and the nearby mountains have always been habitat for them. I've never personally confirmed what their scat looks like, but this one peaked my interest as it was unlike any I've seen in fifteen years.

I've visually confirmed coyotes in the area, but this doesn't look like typical coyote scat to me.

Looks more like dog scat to me cats scat tends to look more like tootsie roll sections from what I’ve seen.
I ended up collecting it and taking it to the biologists at the local Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife for identification. They thought it was too small for Mountain Lion/Cougar scat and felt it was Coyote scat. They noted the bone particles in the scat were smaller than what you typically see is Cougar scat and the scat was smaller than the typical Cougar scat in the area. FWIW - They noted the male/female Cougar in this area typically run between 115-145lbs.
