There's another 'hider here that might be doing 17-204 stuff....tstevens
He was the first one that mentioned the round on a post a few months back. It's what got me looking.
Cheers,
Breeze

Took the 17Predator to visit my Oklahoma buds and it did a great job. No fur damage on my coyotes, just little red dots like this
and likewise on one pretty kitty, not a mark on it...
Had a good trip!

Sure, and thank you!Would you mind telling us the specs on your rifle? I like that camo paint job.
Sure, and thank you!
Seven action, w/ full Gre-Tan accurizing job (truing, bushed pin, sleeved bolt, etc). #3 contour Lilja, 1:9" twist, 24". Chambered in .17Predator, .199" neck. Rem AWR stock, Talley 30mm LWs, Premier Hunter 3-15x50. All metal is OD Cerakoted
Built by Greg Tannel, Gre-Tan Rifles. He does top notch work!
I camo'ed the stock with Krylon and a sponge...
Steve
You get that badger yet? If so what you think of it?
I have been eyeing it for a while now
Steve-O, what twist is your 17R and how heavy a bullet you shooting?
I was reading the 20x47L thread and Holy shit, those 55grn bergers have to be hauling the mail. Be interesting to see what Knockemdown is shooting withthat 17P.
Cheers and good luck with the project!,

in your opinion, which would be easier to set up for a novice reloader? 17-204 or 17P Thanks for your input on this.
For those of you running suppressed 17s is it worth it? I've been wanting to try one.
Tstevens just finished my 17-204 this week hope to be burning powder soon.
steve-O, that 20x47L just sounds insane. What kinda velocities are you going to push? roughly? That might even be more intriuging than the 17-204.
dont' you just hate it when someone comes up, at the last second, with someting totally bastard different, and then all the questions come running back in!
I saw something on a 20-250, and my gun ADD kicked in hyperdrive.
Cheers,
Breeze
Hey Steve-O, just a random last thought here on your 17R, have you tried that little remington accutip bullet yet? In my fireball, it has been the most accurate of anytrhing I've shot. The 20grn accu-tip flat shoots.
Breeze
We're looking forward to a range report and pics!

Yep his Signature is now ts_playball_87 I'll try and grab some pictures of my 17-204 this Weekend just waiting to pick my scope up.Beretta man, did Tstevens change his 'hide name to something else? I tried to drop him a pm about doing my old mauser and couldn't come up with a good name. Something about playball_87 or something?
Thanks for the help on this.,

Steve-O, i'm beginning to beleive that I'm not the only kid on the block with gun A.D.D.! My goodness you have some irons in the fire. We are nearing the Yucatan peninsula, saw the first bird in 10 days.
I just talked with TStevens about the 17-204, he informed me that's a no go for my mauser rebarrel. Hard put to get a bolt face small enough. Crap. Thinking about making it a 22-250AI. I've got two 250's already since this one went to shit..........not sure what direction to go now. What's the sketch on that 17-6.5G, that has to be a blazing li'l bastard as well.
Thanks for the carnage pic,
Breeze

If I want to shoot out to 400 yards with a sub .22 cal I would stick with .20 cal. .20 Tactical is excellent on Coyotes, .20 Vartarg if smaller game is the target.

Hi Ron,
What velocity are you getting with your 17S? Fun little round I bet.
This CZ isn't a minute of PD rifle at 300Y so I might end up putting a different barrel on it. I'll have to think about which cartridge I'll do??? I didn't get the 19 Badger I was considering so I might do a smaller 17 close to the 19 Badger in capacity.
I have a 17-6.5 Grendel reamer being made and am planning on building it in a Benchrest rifle. I'm hoping for .3 moa with 30 golds at 4200 fps or so. That's going to be my 300y to 500Y PD rifle.
Got me a 20x47L project going as well for my tactical rifle. It should push 55 grain Bergers at 3900 fps. It'll be my past 500Y PD rifle. Both the 17-6.5G and 20x47L reamers should be here any day. I'm exited as I have most of the stuff ready for the 20x47L.
Oh alright, you're on. A 20-250 sounds like the way forward.
I was really suprised when TStevens told me the 17-204 with the 30's was running out of steam at 300, especially for coyotes.
Ha! I'm a chief eng/maintenance super out on the rigs. presently in a troubleshooter/helper/trainer mode. We are towing a rig back down to Brazil after a 12 month shipyard in Brownsville, TX. I get to hop off in Trinidad here in 12 days or so.
I just read the Dave Affleck article about his 20-250 and really like his idea. Slow twist of 12 with 35-40gr bullets near 4300fps, maximum point blank range of 400yds. Do you have any smith recommendations?
I don't normally get to chime in with you guys when I'm home, too many irons in the fire. You know the funny thing is that even though I'm THE chief out here, when I'm home, I'm just another indian! That woman ain't scared to hold "the nani" hostage until her Honey Do list gets a few things marked off
On a happy note....she sent game cam pics and I've got a huge bobcat, thee different 'yotes and a gray fox within 200 yards of the house. So the 17fb and the BPS 10ga are fixing to get a work out!!!
Cheers,
Breeze
I'm just fireforming with some light loads(20gr vmax 7.8gr 1680) seeing around 2600. I started out with a recommended load of 7.5 gr of 296 and it was way faster but proved to be temp sensitive and when it warmed up i started to blow primers. Hornet brass is crazy hard to find right now and every ruined case makes my butt pucker. The new loads are mild with just a pop and a slight shudder but seem to do a better job on ground squirrels than a .17hmr. Once the cases are formed I think i can get around 3000fps with this little barrel. I got the model 7 back from the gunsmith with a new 20" .221 fireball barrel and it is really bad news for squirrels even though it's not a hot rod at just over 2900 with a 50 gr bullet. Sings squirrels right to sleep out at 200 yards.
I wish we had those little ground squirrels around here where I live, also some wood chucks as long as I'm wishin.
I guess really small cases and temp sensitive powders are in the same territory. No choice but to load it light or adjust the powder charge for the time of year you'll be shooting.
3000 fps with a 20 grainer out of that tiny case is crazy! Single shot right?
I just wish we had more squirrels around here. I got several calls from places I have hunted in the past telling me they were going to have alot of squirrels this year. Like an idiot i decided to get some builds completed that I've been putting off for the last 10-15 years. Got this .17 Squirrel back, then the .221 and will probably have the .375 back by mid summer and now everyone is saying the squirrel population is down again. I had planned on taking a break from my diesel hobby and do some shooting this year. Looks like I'll be playing with the truck again instead. Here's a pic of the .17. Not much to look at but it's short and light(feels like carrying a BB gun) and shoots alot better than i figured it would. If I put a 10 or 12 power scope on it I'd probably be impressed.
Good God, what kind of squirrels you got over there needing a 375, and are you using solids or expanding? Hell i'll bring big Noreen over and we'll snipe their asses from a safe distance!
That li'l Ruger looks like a terminator style rig, ain't sexy but functional....
Breeze
Oh damn, just dawned on me, you must've meant 375 CheyTac. my bad!
This is California and with all these earthquakes you just never know when a cracks going to open up and release one of them neandrathal jack rabbits. I like to have something bigger than a .17 in the truck, just in case.
