gunsmith and european master in benchrest shooting @ 200m of 2001
he is building competition and hunting rifles. guaranteed spread of at most 6mm of 5 bullets @ 100m with reloaded ammunition (if you do your part)
i'm thinking of getting one. when i called him he said that i'd roughly have to wait 1 year. costs are about 4k to 5k euro, depending on what you want.

Another one for RWS, he built an ar10 for me and I finally got to shoot it yesterday and it shoots great. He is great about answering emails in a timely manner and his work is amazing. I want to have him build me a long range bolt gun for my next gun.

I am so happy with the gun i just had rebarreled that i would go right back to the same smith in a heartbeat.

HSSS He does great work and his turn around time is less than a month if you have all the parts. He has built me 3 rifles now, and every one of them is a GREAT shooter. For info see my sig.

To be totally honest, I doubt there is a smith listed on this thread so far that can't build a rifle that won't out shoot you. Pick a name or outfit from this thread and give them a call.

Predator custom shop Knoxville tenn. They have built three for me personally, and 28 for our department. They were always quick, did quality work, have reasonable prices, and every single one of those rifles shoots under .5 MOA with off the shelf match rounds. Thats more impressive than it sounds for the time crunch the department rifles were done in. Plus Jim, Bob, and the rest of the crew are good people.

Depends on where you are from. And that is?
I would always try to find a quality smith within driving distance.
Just easier to work with for small things versus $75 shipping each time back and forth.

West Wind Rifles in Erie Colorado. When I bought my first 30 caliber Obermeyer barrel, I asked Boots who would be the best person to do work on it and mount it onto my rifle. He recommended them without any hesitation.
So off my rifle went. The smith there asked for 3 dummy rounds, and then asked how much jump I wanted the bullets to have before engaging the rifling. I said 10-15 thou jump. The rifle came back with 12.5 thou jump. I still think that was quite amazing. But he did the same thing when I sent him my 6.5 mm Obermeyer barrel. His work is nothing short of amazing.
A couple of other things I find interesting is that the work has always come back with no unexpected price increases, and most of all....on time. Ask yourself how many gunsmiths actually return work on time...
