Why I don't go to gun shows

I got this Remington 1957 tube feed 22 for $60 at a gun show in January.

OK, I rubbed down the stock since then.

Re: Why I don't go to gun shows

Does that old Winchester 22 have the Sears & Robuck stamp on the barrel by chance?

I have one of those old winchesters that was my grandfathers when he was a kid. and my father has one he got when he was 12.
I also have a Rossie and S&R(sears and robuck) pump 22. Hard to find Sears and Robuch firearms now I try to buy every one I can find. Usually they are in collector shops now though and too high priced for me.

to date from trade days actually, I have S&R 22 pump, 20g pump and a sears and robuck/ win 30/30

Re: Why I don't go to gun shows

If you go to a enough of them and spend enough time you can find gems, but it's very rare. It's like watching the classifieds for a $2000 S&B scope, one might come up, but it's only going to last minutes and you can spend thousands of hours waiting for one and still miss it.....not really worth it in the end.

With the big shows here in NV it's a joke though, the vendors get either a couple hours the morning before or the whole evening before to pick over everything so in most cases the really sweet stuff is gone before any average joe gets in the door. When the ammo rush was on vendors would practically clean the ammo guys out before the show even started. You had guys buying vendor tables just to get in the door early that were not even selling anything. The only real reason to go to them anymore is for the cheap ammo prices. Anything else you find there, you can likely find somewhere else cheaper without the hassle.

That and to watch the CA people try and buy things their lovely state won't let them have and then get busted for it later.

Re: Why I don't go to gun shows

Different people have different gun show strategies:

a) I get there when it opens on Saturday, and run for the Saturday only area to find a table or two of some guy who does not rent tables regularly. Some guy trying to clean out his closet, his gun safe, or his inheritance at pennies on the dollar. Most other tables are carnival people who try to resell material from Shotguns News at $2 on the dollar.
There are lots of guys like me. Look out on the horizon of tables at 8:05 a.m. and you will see us like a flock of vultures gathered at one or two tables. We know a lot of people who go to the show, because we have been collecting like this for years. [The vultures know each other].
Then I look for carrying ins.
We leave the show before 10:00 a.m., when there are too many people to even see the tables. We have hundreds of guns we never shoot, and don't know how we can squeeze another bargain in into our dozen guns safes.

b) There people who are not members and wait in long lines to pay an entry fee, as guys like me are leaving.

c) There are guys, like one A-hole that frequents this forum, who walk around with $30k in their pocket looking for a specific African big game rifle, and when they don't see one, say, "There is nothing here. What a terrible show!"

It's no worse than watching the meth-toothed redneck pick up guns around me (and they are in MUCH larger numbers than the "gangbangers").

They got rights like the rest of us. Ain't no use hatin'.
