Dear Sniper's Hide,
Let me start off by saying I hate you guys. I hate you for a number of reasons:
1- I have read numerous range reports or evaluations from you guys about sub-moa out to 1000+yds and it has me addicted. But I had never shot beyond 200yds until today so I figured that yall all got your rocks off on it and it was a personal choice. Hey, whatever rows your boat.
2- I say "had never shot beyond 200yds until today" because I popped my 500yd cherry today and.... I'm addicted to THAT now too. Sure I had to drive an hour and a half to sit on a shitty wooden bench that was canted just to be able to see the target. But DAMN was it fun to fire my first 3 rounds with my Windrunner at 500yds and seeing that they were 5.5" apart. That really got my blood flowing!
3- I also hate you guys because the wealth of information on this site. It is too damn much! Today I shot that first group and after that a few people around the range came over to chat. After about 30 min. of bullshitting I got back to shooting and my shots kept going high. Couldn't figure it out until I remembered about ammunition heating up and powder being temperature sensitive which I read here. As it turns out I had left my ammo in the sun - Busch League.
4- Yall make this shit look too easy. I was doing okay (1-1.5moa).... until the wind started up. I tried "reading" the wind with mirage and use a couple of formulas I found online, but with the wind picking up and dropping I couldn't get a handle on it. Most of the time I shoot 100-150yds where it isn't that big a factor but it was rough for me at 500yds.
5- With the addiction parts (see 1 and 2), this has become a problem as I've turned this into something akin to golf. Just like I can hit 80 if only I had the latest cavity-back Calloways, if I had a Surgeon Scalpel, GAP Crusader, etc. I could shoot the eye out of a gnat at a mile.... first shot...
Add in the fact the site sponsors give us pretty sumbitchingood discounts and its taken a hell of a lot of self control to keep my bank account above zero.
Really I guess I don't hate you. In fact I want to thank everyone here. The moderators all really do a great job maintaining the site and the sponsors do great work setting stuff up for all of us. Most of all though I want to thank everyone that has contributed range reports, reviews, experiments (even the 5000yds and supersonic thread), etc. It is the wealth of information here that has helped me with my fundamentals, troubleshooting, and equipment. I only hope that I can add to it.
Thanks again,
Brad
